Hello families,  Here's our weekly update! I'm going to keep it brief as I have lots of video editing and guitar playing to do for our assembly next week!  Math This week we continued to explore fact families and students were challenged by being given the whole and one of the parts, then had to determine the missing part. We also started looking at addition and subtraction word problems! We'll continue this work next week. We also had some fun with the math shakers and learned two games as a class.  Literacy This week we only did a few UFLI lessons as we were so focused on our assembly. We learned about the "-le" ending. Students have also been working on many cross curricular literacy tasks when engaged in math, science and social studies learning.  Oops! Almost forgot our words for next week. Hello families,  Here's our weekly update!  Reminders Sound Kreations dance forms came home this week. Please return them as soon as possible! 😊 Home Reading folders will start on Monday for those who expressed interest - thanks for your patience!  Thank you to everyone who offered to volunteer for the grade 1/2 art blocks. We have all the volunteers we need now!  An email was sent earlier this week about some online sessions regarding speech and reading. RSVP by Friday, April 19th. Science & Social Studies This week we've been enjoying learning more about water! Our sharing assembly on the 30th will be all about water and Earth Day! We learned that not everyone has access to clean drinking water and we came up with ways to conserve water for Earth Day. Students made posters to share with the rest of the school. Hello families,  This week a brochure came home about Child Safe Canada Spring & Summer Courses. Students enjoyed learning about different plants and their uses during our plant walk! We enjoyed reading a story, playing a game together, and exploring in our small groups! Thank you to all of the volunteers who were able to join us!            We also continued learning about bodies of water and the water cycle. We investigated how the sun, moon and planets move in the solar system and learned how daylight comes and goes! Hello families,  I hope you all had a restful Spring Break! Here's our weekly update !  Math In math this week we started learning about subtraction. Grade 1s are working on subtraction within 20 and grade 2s are working on subtraction within 100. We learned how to use some of our Montessori materials to solve a subtraction question. On Friday we played some subtraction math games with our big buddy class!  We also did our April calendar and learned all about the important days coming up this month! Literacy We learned about the "-ed" ending on the end of verbs to show they happened in the past. The suffix "-ed" can make three different sounds. Ask your child about the three sounds!  UFLI -ed Activity During Daily LA each group is working on a different Words Their Way word/picture sort!
