Hi Everyone! Our baby chicks have hatched! Six of the seven eggs have now hatched, two are very new and still quite weak from taking so long to hatch and one more started to hatch but we're not sure if it will make it all the way. This morning we worked on the last pages of our chick booklet, chick writing (two  needs and two wants of a chick) and spelling. We had two short work periods and library. We spent a few minutes outside before lunch to maintain our routine! After lunch we had our first netball session! Afterwards we had some more work period time. After recess we talked about our new Character Word of the Week - HONESTY . We discussed what it means to be honest and why being honest is important and read a social story called "Lying Up A Storm." I learned after school today that it is National Honesty Day... who knew!  Blue List: an, pan, can, than, and, sand, stand, brand Green List: motion, lotion, action, direction, collection, addition, subtrac...

Tuesday, Wednesday AND Thursday

Hi Everyone! Sorry for the lack of blog posts this week - here is an update on some of the things we've been up to! On Tuesday, we spent a lot of time outside. We did a Spring scavenger hunt with Miss Ireland's class, spent our gym time outside skipping, and went outside at the end of the day to play a communication game called 4 up. In this game, everyone stands in a circle and only 4 people can be standing at a time. You cannot speak or point but have to switch who is standing and sitting. We learned a lot of ways to communicate non-verbally. On Wednesday, we did an experiment about sinking and floating. Students were surprised to learn that a snap cube floats! We also tested a cork, marble, empty juice box, pencil, popsicle stick, and an item of their choice. In gym we went outside again (it's too nice not to!!) Students had the choice of skipping or using the scoops. At the end of the day we did another communication activity using pattern blocks. In partners, one...

In the afternoon we went to the library to listen to a few Grade 5 students reading a story and then students went to music. At the end of the day we read a story about random acts of kindness. Hello everyone, Today we joined out Grade 3/4 buddies during Daily 5 or some reading time. During work period we worked on day 5 of our chick booklet, talked about some shapes, and had our spelling quiz. We also had some Grade 3/4 students visit us to tell us about the Beyblade club they are starting. Yesterday I was unexpectedly away and I shared with students that I had to put my cat down that I have had since I was in grade 2. Students were very sympathetic and shared their similar experiences. In the afternoon we had guest reader and wrote a message to students at the public elementary school in Humboldt. We also did guest reader and enjoyed some time to catch up on work or do free choice. At the end of the day we watched a bit of Magic School Bus about chickens (by popular demand!) We are still looking for volunteers for our field trip to Ralph Klein Park on Tuesday, April 24th. Hello everyone, This morning we did Daily 5 and finished up our respect skits from yesterday afternoon. During work period we continued on with our chick booklets. Today our chicks are starting to develop a nose, legs and wings. For gym, we went outside and enjoyed some fresh air. In the afternoon we enjoyed a silly story read to us by two of our Grade 6 students and then students went to music. At the end of the day we just had about 20 minutes to finish up with our "Must-Dos!" At the very end of the day we continued on with another activity about respect. We watched "The Bernstein Bears Forget their Manners." We were also visited by Mrs. Jones who spoke to us about vandalism in the school. The boys washroom on the opposite side of the school from our classroom has been vandalized twice in two days. Someone has been scraping words into the stall doors. Please talk to your child to see if they know anything about this and about how we can respect our school. T...
