Hello everyone! This morning we had an extra long explore and play time. This week I will be practicing a song with the grade 5s for Friday's Remembrance Day Assembly which, depending on behaviour in the classroom, will allow for longer or much shorter explore and play time. We did Daily 5 literacy and chose our new weekly words from the "-ot" family. In the afternoon we wrote down our weekly words. When students were finished choosing their words, they were asked to choose a math responsible work choice. We also had our literacy groups this afternoon. This week we will be talking about Remembrance Day and learning more about one of the students in room 13 that has some unique medical needs. This is the last week to send in donations for Jacket Racket! We have only had one jacket brought in from our classroom so far. We have some new fish in our classroom that we are looking to name! Feel free to send a note with some name suggestions if your child has more!

Hi Everyone! Today we continued reading the 4th Secrets of Droon book. We made some predictions about what we were reading and students did an awesome job giving lots of detail in their predictions and giving reasons for their predictions. We had a short daily 5 literacy time where students could choose read to self, buddy reading or a word work activity. In gym we played revenge tag and 4 corners. During work period students practiced their weekly "-in" words and a few more students finished up their Identity art. We also learned a new even and odd math game based off the story "Odd or Even in a Monstrous Season." Students could add their dice roll together by counting up all the dots or using their own personal addition strategies. If they needed more of a challenge, they could subtract their numbers, roll more dice, or multiply their numbers together. Hi everyone! Today students had music in the morning and then we enjoyed our numeracy time with Miss Ireland's class. Students had the option of playing different math games, working on some Halloween addition and subtraction, or doing a step-by-step drawing and turning it into their own colour by number. In the afternoon we had guest reader and library and went outside for our PE time. Today we also had a fire drill and students did an awesome job showing how calmly and quietly they could exit and re-enter the school. At the very end of the day we also enjoyed some birthday treats (as if they needed more treats!!) Have a great evening!

Happy Halloween! We had a great day celebrating together. We worked on some bat art which turned out very cute and had fun dressing up in our costumes. Have a safe and happy Halloween! We will see everyone tomorrow for our PJ and numeracy day! I have asked students not  to bring stuffed animals or toys but if they have a small blanket they want to bring they are welcome to do that! Hi everyone! We still have a small class today - it seems lots of our friends are feeling sick! Today we had a longer work period where we were able to finish up lots of stuff! Everyone finished their identity art and they turned out great! For practicing our weekly words, students had the option of choosing a word work centre or writing out their words in different "Halloween styles." Some of their options were a black and orange pattern, spooky letters, slime letters, costume words or tall and skinny letters. Today for PE, because we had a small class and the gym to ourselves, we decided to do some activities that we don't normally get to do. We practiced our bowling skills as well as ring toss. It was a lot of fun! Lots of students were cheering each other on and everyone was taking turns and working very well together. In the afternoon students had guest reader and music. Hello families! Today we chose our weekly words from the "-in" family. We came up with SO many challenge words. In gym we played a new game called "Giants, Wizards, and Elves" which is like giant rock, paper, scissors! In the afternoon we had our literacy groups! We are looking forward to a busy week ahead! We are working hard to fill our pom pom jar so we can win a PJ day for this Thursday. I will keep you posted! Hi everyone!  I just wanted to provide an update on the Halloween Costume Parade on Wednesday. If you would like to come check out all the costumes, please come to the school around 1pm on Wednesday, October 31st. You will be directed to the gym where you can view all of the awesome LBS costumes. See you there! 👻 ________________________________________________ Dear Parents, Rooms 14 and 17 are leading a collection of winter clothing to be distributed to Calgarians in need. The clothing will be given to an organization called  Jacket Racket . We will collect as much winter clothing (Jackets, Mittens, Snow pants, etc) as we can. To do this, we are asking that all students at LBS bring in any winter clothing they are willing to donate over the next month. It is important that the items are in good, clean condition.
