Hello families,  We started this week with some fun Halloween activities! Students got to travel to each grade 1/2 class to participate in a different Halloween learning activity. Students did art with Ms. Greenhall, math roll a monster with Mrs. Green, Halloween dances/exercises with Ms. Midgley, Would You Rather and charades with Ms. Romanko, and guessing the spooky sounds with Ms. Gierl. We also had a parent organize an escape room for grade 1/2 students!  Our grade 1/2 team and the St. Mary's student teachers dressed up as vowel (and vowel team) superheroes! Speaking of which, this week we welcomed Mrs. CarreƱo (ka-rain-yo) who is our student teacher from U of C. She will be with us for 6 weeks and will be returning to our classroom in the early spring!  On Tuesday we enjoyed our PJ day and watching the movie Inside Out together. We have been working with the new physical education and wellness curriculum and are excited for students to be learning about their feeling...

Hello families,  This week we reviewed the letters W, Y, Z and Q. We will be starting up our Words Their Way program shortly! We've been doing our Daily Language Arts time twice each day so students are participating in read with teacher, read to self, buddy reading, listen to reading and word work twice each week. The Listen to Reading station can be quite distracting for other students if headphones aren't used. If you are able to send headphones for your child to keep in their cubby at school, that would be very helpful. In math we continued with representing numbers and students did some Halloween math using haunted houses (hundreds), broom sticks (tens) and pumpkins (ones). We've been doing math warm-ups each morning to help kick-start our mornings. I added an example.  This week we worked on our Art Cards for our upcoming holiday season! Here's a little sneak peak but I don't want to share the final results yet! I think they turned our very cute and the studen...

Hello families,  We've had a busy 5 day week! We enjoyed two more art sessions with Ms. Sharon and learned about how Peter Reynolds uses lines in his artwork.  This week we took advantage of the nice weather and spent a little extra time outside. Students made their names out of nature for the cover of our nature journals, and some created nature Mandalas if they had extra time. We also spent some time practicing lines and mindfulness with our Zentangles outside.  In math, we continued to work on representing numbers using hundreds, tens and ones. We also learned a new math card game called Wild Jacks. The video below can teach you I Spy and Wild Jacks if you're interested in playing at home.  We did another picture sort for the letters F, E, K, R and H. We reviewed L, V, U and J. Students BEGGED me to do an activity from last year where they designed Halloween costumes for me! We talked about the purpose of this writing which is persuasive writing. I am not expectin...
