Hello families! Here's what we got up to this week! In math, we've been continuing to learn about fractions. Students had fun going on a fraction scavenger hunt on Monday. This was optional for grade 1s as it goes beyond halves but most grade 1s chose to take on the challenge! I loved hearing the math vocabulary that was being used during this activity - "That's one third!" or "This one is three quarters!" We then moved on to comparing fractions using the greater than, less than and equal to symbols. We are only comparing fractions with the same denominator. We also learned how to represent fractions in different ways including: circle models, parts of a set, fraction strips, and number lines. In social studies we learned about the last three Sacred Teachings. We learned the teaching of wisdom from the beaver, humility from the wolf, and truth from the turtle.
