October 7-11

Hello families,  Here's our weekly update!  This week we learned one of my favourite math games (perfect for October!) called Spider Legs. This is one that can easily be re-created at home. We went on a leaf hunt and collected leaves of different colours. Students worked in their table groups to record the data in a tally chart. We looked at an example and non-example of a bar graph, and grade 2s created a bar graph. Grade 1s showed their data by making a concrete graph with the leaves or by building a bar graph with unifix cubes.      We also enjoyed collecting data about our favourite thanksgiving foods! Students recorded this data in a tally chart and showed it in a bar graph.  We started our Daily LA (language arts) rotations this week. Students were split into 6 groups and will be doing a different station each day (read to self, work on writing, word work, buddy reading, listen to reading, and read with Ms. Midgley) We left out teacher table for now so I can monitor the other

Hello families,  Happy October! 🦃🎃 Here's what we got up to this week!  In math, we looked at the October calendar and went through all of the important dates we don't want to forget this month! We've been practicing using tally marks to collect data and represent numbers and we've been practicing skip counting by 5s! We looked at a hundreds chart to see the pattern when we count by 5s.  Students worked in their table groups to collect as many items as they could in the classroom that were red, orange, blue, pink and green. They collected this data on a tally chart and then learned how to create a pictograph to graph the data. Grade 2 students were challenged to use a key of 1 symbol=2 items.      In literacy we've been working with CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words with the letters we have learned. We also learned the nasalized "an" and "am" sounds. We learned an "am" poem and students drew what they visualized in their minds. Th
