Hello families here's our weekly update!  This week in health, we continued discussing consent and boundaries and personal safety. We talked about good and bad secrets or the difference between a surprise (good) and a secret (bad). We learned how to draw some elevated stick people and students worked on creating a safety network of 5 people they can go to if they are feeling unsafe. Ask your child who they drew in their safety network!      In math, we worked on creating our pictographs and we made some fruit bar graphs! We also started learning place value and how we can show numbers using tens and ones. We learned a few Montessori math materials such as the Teens Board and Tens Board (with the Coloured Bead Bars) and the Golden Beads and Large Number Cards. Students were able to choose their level of work - we talked about what makes a good level of work - something that challenges you a little so your brain can get stronger, but not something that's too challengin...

Hello families!  Here is our weekly update!  This week we have been busy with our Art Card fundraiser! This took a lot of our time this week so the blog may seem a bit shorter than usual! We are working on some all-season artwork so our art cards this year will be able to be used for all occasions! This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and provides classes with money to purchase materials for special events and to enhance our classrooms! I won't share any photos of our artwork yet!  We reviewed the letters C and U this week. Ask your child about the action and sound for each letter! We also reviewed expectations for writing and sounding out words, as well as sentence writing for grade twos.  Decodable passage for the letters and heart words we've learned so far!  UFLI Roll & Read  We have successfully completed our Daily LA rotations this week with the addition of the teacher table! When working at my table, students were working on sounding out wo...

Hello families,  Here's our weekly update!  This week we learned one of my favourite math games (perfect for October!) called Spider Legs. This is one that can easily be re-created at home. We went on a leaf hunt and collected leaves of different colours. Students worked in their table groups to record the data in a tally chart. We looked at an example and non-example of a bar graph, and grade 2s created a bar graph. Grade 1s showed their data by making a concrete graph with the leaves or by building a bar graph with unifix cubes.      We also enjoyed collecting data about our favourite thanksgiving foods! Students recorded this data in a tally chart and showed it in a bar graph.  We started our Daily LA (language arts) rotations this week. Students were split into 6 groups and will be doing a different station each day (read to self, work on writing, word work, buddy reading, listen to reading, and read with Ms. Midgley) We left out teacher table for now s...
