Hi families, Today we started working on a few different activities. Students randomly chose from 19 different fall pictures to determine what part of our art project they would be responsible for. These include animals we see in the fall, plants we see or vegetables that are in season, weather, etc. Students then used a step-by-step drawing and received feedback from someone to see how they could improve it. They then tried their drawing again. Tomorrow we will do the good copies with water colours. I was able to share a document on the student side of Seesaw with links to all of the step-by-step drawing videos - definitely time saving! Students were also practicing their "-ag" words and working on a math task. The math was definitely tricky and students had a hard time showing how they were solving it. We will need to continue with similar problems! In the afternoon, we did one center in Daily 5 and used the rest of our time to continue with work ...

Hello families! This morning we brainstormed words from the "-ag" family. After snack, students chose their words, we had Daily 5 and Guest Reader. Right before lunch, we listened to the social story "Thanks for the Feedback" (the sound quality is not great!) In the afternoon, we had Mindful Minutes, talked a little bit about helpful feedback, then went to gym. I showed students a picture I was trying to draw, and my version of it and asked for feedback. We discussed how some feedback can be nice (ie. I like what you drew) but not really helpful. They provided me with helpful and not helpful feedback. We will be using this skill for some artwork tomorrow. At the end of the day, students went to music. Tomorrow we will not  be having library because the library is closed this week for the Scholastic Book Fair set-up. Instead, we will be viewing the book fair on Wednesday afternoon and will have our regular library time next week. This week we will b...

Hello families! This morning we had guest reader and spent some time doing quiet reading. During snack, we enjoyed some birthday cookies and watched a Bill Nye video about the seasons. We then went to gym where we did some skipping and hula hoops! During work period, students practiced their words, finished up their How do you know winter is coming? activity and shared it on Seesaw. Students also enjoyed some free choice time and had an extra snack if needed. Don't forget to sign up for Parent-Teacher Conferences next Thursday or Friday. Please email me or call the school if you are having trouble signing up. I would love to meet with each family, if possible! I realized I never shared our Remembrance Day poppies, so here they are! Have a great weekend!

Hello families! This morning, the form for Art Felt Studios was sent to you via School Messenger. Please let me know if you are not signed up for School Messenger and did not receive it.  This morning we started talking about seasonal changes. We read the story "Goodbye Autumn, Hello Winter," and part of the book "Nature's Day." This book is one of my favourites - it is so beautiful and teaches us a lot about things that happen when the seasons change. I brought it home last night and it turns out my cat, Nora, is also a big fan. We also watched this great video about why we have 4 seasons. I thought it did a good job of explaining for a young audience. I also attempted to demonstrate using our classroom globe - they seemed to be pretty mind blown. During work period, students practiced their Weekly Words and were responding to the question: How do you know winter is coming? by considering changes they see with animals, people, the outdoors, and...

Hi families! This morning we started talking about Venn Diagrams. We did one together as a class to compare me to Mrs. Ireland. We also did one more practice for the lockdown with just our class. Students then had music and then gym. During work period, students practiced their "-ig" words and worked with a partner to make a Venn Diagram comparing independence at home and at school. In the afternoon we had mindful minutes and then our lockdown drill. Students did a pretty good job during the drill - there was a little bit of whispering going on but overall they did a great job sitting quietly for 25 minutes! We then had daily 5 literacy and guest reader after recess. We've been doing "secret spot" in the classroom - just thought I'd clarify in case you're confused. I choose something that needs to be put away or cleaned up and the students try to figure out what I picked while I quietly observe to see who figures it out. Recently, the person who finds ...

Hello families! This morning, we chose words from the "-ig" family. Here is a video about the "-ig" family. We talked about the difference between a Lockdown Drill and what it means when we close the blue doors at our school. Sometimes, the blue doors are closed when a student is not in control of their emotions and is interfering with the learning happening in our building. A Lockdown Drill is when there is a safety concern within our school such as an animal, a person we don't know, etc. I try to talk about it in a way that doesn't worry students but also makes them realize that it is a serious and important thing to practice - it's a challenging balance! We did a practice drill with Mrs. Ireland's class and will have a school-wide drill tomorrow afternoon. This morning we also had our class photos re-taken. While students were choosing their Weekly Words, I called students up to choose a book for their new R.E.D. folder. HOME READING Toda...

Hello families! Yesterday we worked in small groups on our poppy art. They turned out great! I'll post a picture next week as they are hanging in the gym and our after school program is there right now. Today we were working on a math task where students had to find 3 numbers to make 14/17/32/48. Some students were counting out 14 objects and separating them into 3 groups with different combinations each time. We didn't have access to the gym so we did some Go Noodles in the classroom. Students did a great job at our Remembrance Day assembly and showed respect the whole time. Students enjoyed some free choice time and at the end of the day we had a Peace Conference. Please remember that Tuesday is photo retake day. We will have our class photo re-taken. Tuesday will also be library day. I will send an email on Monday as a reminder.
