Oct. 5-8
Hello families!
This week we continued learning about repeating patterns! Students built patterns and used patterns in their artwork. They planned their artwork first and had to include an AB, AAB, and ABC pattern.
I think they turned out so beautiful!!
We also started learning how to do Daily 5 literacy in the classroom. Each day, the tables rotate to a different literacy activity. So far it has been going really well! The "Work on Writing" group can choose to do creative writing or printing practice. The "Listen to Reading" group uses the iPads to go on Raz-Kids or Epic (I'll send Raz-Kids login info home next week!) If you are able to send headphones labelled with your child's name to keep at school, that would be great for this type of activity. The "Word Work" group gets different literacy games or Montessori literacy materials to use. Once students are able to do this work a little more independently, I will be able to read one-on-one or in small groups with students.
This week we also continued celebrating the things we like most about ourselves. Students wrote 3 "I am" sentences in their writing books and either chose their favourite sentence or combined their sentences to make a poster. I will take photos of students with their posters next week and will share them on the blog! We also started working on a fall poem as a class which I will also share next week as we aren't quite finished yet!
This week we reviewed the letters L, N, I and W - these characters are all listed on our Google Classroom. On Thursday we watched the story "Giving Thanks." We brainstormed things that we are thankful for that come from the earth, as well as other things in our lives that we feel grateful for. Students then completed a turkey activity where they wrote 6 things they are thankful for and practiced their colouring and cutting skills! I think they turned out very cute!
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving long weekend! 🦃🍂
