December 12-16

 Hello families,

We had so much fun preparing for our AARCS fundraiser this week! Students were hard at work making posters, mixing ingredients, and packaging the treats. We made groups of 10 to count how many bags we were able to make. We made 113 bags of dog treats and 68 bags of cat treats. We completely sold out!

This week we worked on some graphing and data collection. We also enjoyed playing "Christmas Tree" (same game as Spider Legs!).

In social studies we continued learning about the Seven Sacred Teachings. We talked about love which is represented by the eagle. Students came up with ideas for how to show love to others, the land, and themselves. We also discussed courage which is represented by the bear.

Word Work Groups

*This week was our last week of Word Work groups until the new year.*

In Ms. Greenhall's Word Work Group students have been learning about consonants. This week we reviewed the letters V, Y, and Z using the Animated Literacy actions. We then cut and sorted pictures that start with these letters. Those who finished early tried to spell the items in their pictures and then moved onto a literacy game. Ask your child about the actions and sounds for  V,Y and Z.

In Ms. Lacour's Word Work Group students have been learning about vowels. This week we continued with short "E" and looked at the "ET" and "EG" word families. We then sorted pictures to match the corresponding words. Ask your child about words in the "ET" and "EG" family

In Ms. Midgley's group we reviewed all of the digraphs we've learned so far - ch, sh, th and wh! We sorted pictures for all of the digraphs.

In Ms. Gierl and Ms. Green's long vowel groups, students worked on the short and long i sounds. We continued our work with King E by comparing words like: hid - hide, pin - pine, fin - fine, shin - shine, bit - bite. It is fun to think of long vowel words - try it at home! "What is the long vowel word for ______?"

We are really excited about our Holiday Spirit Week next week! I am especially excited for Grinch Day! 💚
