Hello families! I can't believe we're in the single digit-countdown for weeks of school left - only 9 and we have a lot to learn still! This week in math, students were really excited to start learning about fractions. Fractions are a new concept for grade 1 and 2 students as it was not taught until grade 3 in the old curriculum. If students in grade 1 are showing a strong understanding of halfs, they will have the opportunity to explore fractions further alongside the grade 2s! This week we started with a pre-assessment and learned about equal and unequal parts. Students then began learning about numerators and denominators - they are really excited about this new concept! They were even chanting about fractions!
