May 30-June 2

 Hello Families, 

Thanks to everyone who was able to make it to our Assembly on Tuesday - what a turn out! This week we continued with some more outdoor time. On Tuesday, Mrs. Green's class taught us how to play Capture the Flag and on Wednesday we did equipment stations outdoors! On Thursday we had Tai Chi - last week I was so into it I forgot to take photos! I think this was a unique experience for students and for myself! Thank you Sifu Greenhall! 




This week we learned how to use a Venn Diagram. We practiced by comparing me to one of the students. The class did a great job coming up with differences and similarities between the two of us! Next week we will do this again with the animals we are researching. This week students chose an animal to research on PebbleGO. Grade 1s could choose any animal, and grade 2s were asked to choose a small crawling or flying animal. I'm so impressed with the research so far! Students will be taking this information and creating their own National Geographic Books" starting next week! 

This week we continued our learning about boundaries. We read a story called Don't Hug Doug and talked about what may lead to a boundary change. Students worked on a relationship circle to show how their boundaries may vary based on who they are interacting with. 


In math we are continuing to learn about 2D shapes. We looked at pentagons, hexagons and octagons! Next week we're moving into 3D shapes!

Hello families,  Here's our weekly update!  In September we are focusing on building community in our classroom, getting to know each other, and learning classroom routines and expectations. I can tell the biggest thing we need to work on is noise level! 😅 We read the story "We Don't Eat our Classmates" and talked about treating other people the way we want to be treated. Students had fun doing a step-by-step drawing of a T-rex!  We also learned about calendars and completed a calendar activity for September. Grade 2 students labelled each day and wrote the special days in September. Grade 1s could choose a calendar template where they wrote their own numbers to 30 or traced the numbers to 30. They were then asked to colour their calendar in a pattern as I wanted to see what they know about patterns already. Hello families,  Here's our weekly update!  Reminders Sound Kreations dance forms came home this week. Please return them as soon as possible! 😊 Home Reading folders will start on Monday for those who expressed interest - thanks for your patience!  Thank you to everyone who offered to volunteer for the grade 1/2 art blocks. We have all the volunteers we need now!  An email was sent earlier this week about some online sessions regarding speech and reading. RSVP by Friday, April 19th. Science & Social Studies This week we've been enjoying learning more about water! Our sharing assembly on the 30th will be all about water and Earth Day! We learned that not everyone has access to clean drinking water and we came up with ways to conserve water for Earth Day. Students made posters to share with the rest of the school. Hello families,  What a week! We've been busy with lots of learning and finally enjoying some nicer weather!  I know students (and teachers!) had quite a scare this week when we had a medical emergency in the classroom. We've chatted lots about this and I've done my best to calm nerves and ease worries. I want to assure you that everyone is ok!  Here's what we got up to this week!  Literacy This week we continued learning about digraphs during our UFLI lessons! We focused on the two sounds of "th" this week which we call the voiced and unvoiced sounds. We enjoyed using our new Word Work mats that were put together by parent volunteers during Worker Bee!
