April 22-25
Hello families!
Here's what we got up to this week!
We're continuing to learn about our little chicks and are so excited for hatching day on Monday! We candled the eggs again on Day 15 and they appear to be growing well! We also learned about the different parts of an egg and what they do and students were challenged to make a chicken lifecycle out of loose parts. On Friday we had our "chick lockdown" day which means we are no longer able to open the incubator. We took a look at the chick's habitat and students sketched and labelled the habitat from a birds-eye view. We are feeling prepared for hatching day on Monday! Don't worry I will take LOTS of chick pictures!
This week we also celebrated Earth Day! We had fun measuring eco-friendly items on Earth Day! We learned important rules for using non-standard units of measurement and recorded our findings in a table. We learned how to measure using the tiling strategy as well as iteration - ask your child about the difference between these two strategies! We also continue to work on our number sense every day with our morning math activity!
Here are our words for next week! I couldn't resists some chicken themed words. There will not be a quiz on these words!
This week we started reading The Wild Robot! We've read a few chapters and have been working on comprehension questions and learning new vocabulary words. This week we talked about the words: chaos, curiosity, activate and instinct.
