Monday

Hello everyone!

Today we continued on with our daily routine of Explore and Play and Daily 5 literacy. The group I was reading with today talked about contractions! Before work period we watched a video about Terry Fox. The students were very curious and compassionate. Don't be surprised if they come home with even more questions! Tomorrow afternoon is our Terry Fox Run! Feel free to join us at 1:45pm if you'd like!

Tomorrow students will wear a sticker that says, "Terry ran for me, I am running for..." Students were asked to talk to their families tonight about who they could run for tomorrow. Feel free to send a note in communication folders if you don't think your child will remember!

During work period students had the choice of writing about their weekends or responding to the question, What can we learn from Terry Fox? Students were also given a list of 10 numbers (4 different lists with varying difficulties they could choose from) and were asked to represent these numbers using one of the materials in the classroom. Some students used the Golden Beads, Bead Frames, math racks, bead bars, and more. There are no weekly words this week!

After lunch we finished off our second Secrets of Droon story. We also had library! After recess, our guest reader was absent, so we watched a second video about Terry Fox and talked a little bit more about what tomorrow will look like.

Tomorrow we will also be starting a whole school Colour Group activity. Each student has been assigned to a colour group which includes students from K-6. Students were told they can wear their colour tomorrow if they want but they don't have to.

Miss Ireland and I came across a little surprise in our classrooms on Friday afternoon. We discovered some fish eggs in our tank. Originally we thought all fish were the same gender but I guess we were wrong! We are not 100% sure the eggs will hatch but we have moved the other fish over to a different tank to allow the baby fish the best chance at survival. We are suspecting that the eggs belong to the Bronze Corydora fish. Hopefully within 8 days we will have some new class pets!
