Wednesday

Hi Everyone! I will just share a few quick things with you as you will soon be seeing what we have been working so hard on! Please remember that tomorrow is a half day - students are dismissed at 11:38am. They do not need to bring a lunch but will still need a snack! We are hoping to see as many of you as possible between 10:30-11:30 tomorrow morning for some reading time! Remember to wear your PJs! (I have to, so you do too!) Hopefully we will see many of you tomorrow for literacy time and most of you Thursday and Friday for Student-Led Conferences!!

Hello everyone, Today we spent a lot of time finishing up our stories and practicing our folktale plays! We are working on our illustrations. We also presented our plays so far to our classmates and received some feedback! You will also have the opportunity to provide feedback on your child's play during conferences. If you have not yet signed up for student-led conferences, please do so soon! Students are very excited to be sharing their work. If you need some support booking a conference please let me know! If you are available to volunteer tomorrow to help film our folktale plays please let me know! I would really appreciate another set of hands. Our March letter home is the most recent blog post! Please take an opportunity to read it and ask your child about their goal for April. Today we also had a parent from our classroom visit to share his experience as an author, as part of our literacy week. He talked about a story he wrote with his daughter because her friends th

End of March Letter Home

Dear families, In March, we learned that astronauts cannot tell the difference between being upside down or right side up in space because of gravity. We also learned how to make people out of wire at Leighton Art Centre. We learned how to make our own rockets that can blast off! In gym, we learned some hockey skills and curling! We enjoyed, our field trips to Spaceport and Leighton Art Centre. We also enjoyed writing and acting out our folktales. We had fun celebrating St. Patrick's Day by making leprechaun traps, clover art with tissue paper, and St. Patrick's Day math! We also enjoyed going to the Family Dance. We liked the candy, the photo booth, the food, the pie throwing, and the cake walk. Ask me about my goal for April! Love, The Students of Room 13! (And Ms. Midgley!)

Hello everyone! Today we had a very fun field trip to Spaceport. 60 children in the airport was a little crazy... thank you so much to all of our volunteers! We completed three programs today: Monster Machines, Rocket Making and Life in Space. Chris Hadfield has some great Youtube videos answering questions about what living in space is like. I have not previewed all of this video so I cannot ensure it is appropriate for students - please review it before sharing with your children!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SE4HsMi3KoU This week we will not do spelling words! Thursday is a busy half day so that only leaves us with two days this week where we will be working very hard on our folktale performances and preparing for student-led conferences. If you have not yet signed up for conferences please do so soon! Our March letter home will also be in blog format and written as a class this month as this week is just too busy!! I AM ALSO STILL LOOKING FOR A VOLUNTEER FOR WEDNESD

Hello everyone! Today we started with Explore and Play. Yesterday several students had started working on leprechaun traps and they continued this work this morning! They are so creative! We then went to music and had snack and our spelling quiz. During work period we worked on some St. Patrick's Day math and art. I think we used all the green tissue paper in the school. In the afternoon we had buddies and created a leprechaun comic strip with support from the older buddies. We also enjoyed some free choice time at the end of the day! Next week we will have a big focus on our Folktale plays! If anyone is available Tuesday or Wednesday to help us film, I would really appreciate the help! Next week is literacy week - we will have lots of different literacy activities going on around the school. You are invited to visit on Thursday from 10:30-11:30 to read with your child and other children if you have your police security clearance. I hope you can make it!! Also, if you hav

Book Drive

Dear Parents and Guardians,   Did you know… over 15 million Canadian adults will have low literacy by 2031? We at LBS know the importance of learning to love reading and all kinds of books! We also want to share that passion with others!   Literacy week is coming and the Students in Action are organizing a BOOK DRIVE/EXCHANGE!   Please donate any books you don’t want anymore to our book drive. For every 2 books donated, your child will receive one book ticket. YES that means that if you donate 40 books, your child will receive 20 tickets and be able to choose 20 books to take home from all our collected books!   We will be collecting and organizing all the donated books in the gym for selection on Thursday March 22 nd  from 10:30 to 11:30.   So, what will happen to all the extra books collected and not chosen? We are so glad you asked that! The extra books will be donated to a school or organization in need. Students in Action are very excited to be able to give
