Hello families!  Here's our weekly update!  Literacy This week we continued learning about the bossy e! We reviewed the a_e spelling pattern with a poem called Birthday Cake. We learned the bossy e with the long i sound. (i_e). We've been working on mapping the sounds, matching with graphemes and re-writing using interlined paper. Grade 2 students learned about the "-tch" sound and we made up our own action! We only got to one more chapter of My Father's Dragon because we had such a busy week! We're focusing in on comprehension questions and problem and solution. We learned about punctuation focusing on periods, exclamation points and question marks (with a little bit about commas!)  Students also practiced their capitalization and punctuation during Ms. H's wellness lesson. Words for next week! We didn't get to our quiz today!  I realized I forgot to share this speech information from CBE. Please note they are looking at updating this information.  Ma

Hi Families, Here's a quite update on our short week at school!  Math We practice how to represent addition using pictures. We talked a lot about the difference between showing the whole equation vs showing just the answer. For numbers to 20 (grade 1) we can draw shapes and symbols to show addition and for numbers to 100 (grade 2) we can use base ten blocks and colour to be more efficient!  In math groups, some grade 2 students started learning how to represent addition on an open number line using skip counting. This was a good challenge for them!  Grade 2 Grade 1 Literacy We did a digraph review this week and a little assessment to see if the class is ready to move on! Overall, students are doing quite well and showed they were ready to move on! I encourage continued practice at home with digraphs if you are able! Again, the resources on UFLI are great (including reading passage, home practice and roll & reads).  https://ufli.education.ufl.edu/foundations/toolbox/42-53/  We&#

Hello families,  Here's our weekly update!  Literacy This week we learned about the "ng" and "nk" digraphs and did a digraph review! Students enjoyed reading an "-ung" poem and an "ank" poem. Grade 1s went on a ng word search around the classroom and grade 2s worked on some ng reading and comprehension questions. In grade 1 we had a bit of trouble remembering that "nk" words are just "nk" and not "ngk." (example - thingk for think). Here's a link to the UFLI lessons we've been working through recently. There are links to reading passages and all of the roll & read activities -  https://ufli.education.ufl.edu/foundations/toolbox/42-53/   We continued learning about capitalization and broke down our "M.I.N.T.S" strategy by looking at months, days and holidays and then the letter I.  Here are our high-frequency words for next week!  Math We continued working on the counting on method for additi
