Hello families,  We made it to winter break! Woohoo!  This week we had some fun with holiday graphing and other winter math activities. We started learning about snowflakes and students started on a KWL chart to share what they know about snowflakes already, and what they are wondering about snowflakes. We will continue this in the new year! We enjoyed making some snowflake cards for Christmas time and a little gift for families! I usually make ornaments for students for Christmas but unfortunately didn't get to it this year. My older brother is going traveling in Asia for a year and leaves today so December has been all about spending as much time with my family as possible! So hopefully my little gift for students this year will suffice!  We loved all of the spirit days this week, especially Grinch Day! We also did some caroling as a full school and enjoyed lots of PE activities in the classroom since it was too cold to go outside and our gym is closed because our floor is gettin

Hello families,  We had so much fun preparing for our AARCS fundraiser this week! Students were hard at work making posters, mixing ingredients, and packaging the treats. We made groups of 10 to count how many bags we were able to make. We made 113 bags of dog treats and 68 bags of cat treats. We completely sold out!  This week we worked on some graphing and data collection. We also enjoyed playing "Christmas Tree" (same game as Spider Legs!).  In social studies we continued learning about the Seven Sacred Teachings. We talked about love which is represented by the eagle. Students came up with ideas for how to show love to others, the land, and themselves. We also discussed courage which is represented by the bear.  Word Work Groups *This week was our last week of Word Work groups until the new year.* In Ms. Greenhall's Word Work Group students have been learning about consonants. This week we reviewed the letters V, Y, and Z using the Animated Literacy actions. We then

Hello families,  This week was the first time since October that we had every student here!! It was so nice to have everyone back in the classroom on Wednesday and Thursday. Fingers crossed we are done with all the sickness for awhile!  In math this week we learned about number lines! We enjoyed playing some number lines games as a class. We also played a holiday math game.  In science, Mrs. CarreƱo continued to teach us about liquids! Students learned about water drops with some experimenting. We also learned about mixing liquids together and mixing liquids with solids.  In social studies we continued talking about cedar and started learning about the Seven Sacred Teachings. We started with the teaching of the buffalo which represents respect. We talked about ways that we demonstrate respect and students drew and wrote about it.  Word Work Groups In Ms. Greenhall's Word Work Group students have been learning about consonants. This week we reviewed the letters L, J, K, and W using

Hello families,  We had an eventful week! We spent Tuesday and Wednesday on the stage while our classroom was being painted which was quite the adventure! We also had to spend most recesses inside due to the cold weather!  In math, we finally finished up our place value donuts. We also learned about representing smaller numbers with 10-frames. We took a look at the December calendar and students made their own to bring home to help them remember all of the things that are happening this month! On Friday, we enjoyed playing a holiday math game with our big buddy class.  In science, we wrapped up our learning about colour with the colour wheel and moved on to learning about liquids. Students shared what the already knew about liquids and examples of liquids (I had to laugh when the first idea shared was wine!) and learned about the different properties of water through exploration.  This week we have been slowly reading the story called "Sadly Ever After?" We are collaborativel

Hello families,  This week we have been working very hard on our Best Part of Me writing. Students decided on the best physical part of them and brainstormed ideas about what it looks like, feels like, and what they can do with it. They then use sentence frames to put their ideas into complete sentences. From there, students focused on improving the neatness of their writing, thinking about "sky, grass, dirt" letters, proper spacing, and appropriate use of lowercase and uppercase letters. They then did a final copy and a self-reflection on their work.  In math, we've been working on creating some base ten donuts as a parallel task to our base ten creatures. Students were asked to create 3 specific numbers on their donuts, and then create a donut of their choice.  We've been continuing to learn about colours and enjoyed colour mixing with paint and going on a community walk to search for primary and secondary colours.  Here is what we've been up to in our Word Work
