Hello families! Happy Family Literacy Day! Here are some games that can be played at home to celebrate:  https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1dzbmTocQfj0Tzf2yAKiCeWXZrFtjUAui8fqbijCJmU4/edit?usp=sharing  On Thursday at our assembly, we learned about the program Spellie . We've been using it in the classroom now! There is a new word challenge every day if you'd like to try it on the weekend. Please don't do it in the mornings during the week as we will be using it at school!  This week we were very excited to have AARCS come visit us. Nicole came to speak to us about what AARCS does and how the money we raised helps them. She brought alone Bruja who is a foster dog - she was so sweet! We were so proud to raise $705.10!  In math we learned about addition! We read the story "The Mission of Addition" and took our first try at some addition problems. Hello families,  Here are a few updates from this week. In math we learned about picto-graphs and completed a collaborative bar graph about our classroom birthdays. We've also continued to work with number bonds and did the same activity as last week, but also expressed the number bonds as addition equations. With our work with the dominos, the students have been really interested in working with them and watching domino videos!  The grade 1 students have also started working with me on some government numeracy assessments which we will continue next week!  In literacy, we continued learning about digraphs. We learned about the "ph" sound this week and reviewed all of the actions and characters. There was no Animated Literacy character for PH so we had Mr. Link use his art and music skills to create a character and a song for us. Ask your child about the action for "ph!" We have also been loving reading Junie B. Jones together. She is so mischievous and hilariou

We learned a little more about what high frequency words are (some sight words and some fully or partially decodable) and learned some different ways to practice them. Sometimes the partially decodable words are called "heart words" because there are parts of the word that we can decode and parts that we need to remember by heart.  We have also been reviewing some digraphs. We reviewed Ch, Sh, Th and Wh. Ask your child about the actions for these sounds! We LOVE these silly Scratch Garden videos for each digraph.  In math we continued with some data collection and graphing. We shared different winter activities that we did over the b
