Hello families,  This week we continued on with our One Nature challenge! On Tuesday, Ms. Romanko's class taught us how to play Elephant Soccer and we waved goodbye to our grade 5 an 6 friends as they left for Outdoor School at Camp Chief Hector for 4 days! On Wednesday and Thursday we enjoyed having snack in the garden and listening to guest reader in the garden. On Friday we enjoyed our PE time outdoors with the other grade 1/2 classes. In math we've been reviewing balanced equations during our morning task. This is review from earlier in the year but still seems to be a bit challenging to understand! We've also been learning about 2D shapes including rectangles, rhombuses, and trapezoids. Students are identifying the numbers of sides and corners, and finding 4 things that are the same shape! We like the Storybots videos about shapes!  An example of balancing equations with addition! We've been working with some larger numbers in grade 2! In science we learned about a

Hello families,  We had some exciting things going on in the classroom this week! Students loved our visit with the Honey Merchants. Students learned a lot about bees - they are so fascinating and kind of gross! We got to learn from Katie, observe and touch artifacts, and observe live bees in her hive.  In science, we also learned about vertebrates and invertebrates and how vertebrates are classified: mammals, amphibians, reptiles, birds and fish. Grade 1 students sorted animals into two groups vertebrates and invertebrates) and grade 2s wrote and drew the characteristics of each type of vertebrate and and provided an example of each.  We also read a story called "Find out About Animal Homes." Students drew and labelled four examples of animal homes and who lives there.  The smoke this week put a bit of a damper on our outdoor challenge. On Monday, we were able to get outside and played a game together called Mouse Trap! Then on Friday, we were able to spend out PE time outdo

On Wednesday, we started a writing plan for this task. On Thursday, we had a shape scavenger hunt outside. We were looking for rhombuses, ovals, trapezoids and hexagons! We somehow were able to find the nicest part of each day to enjoy outside!  Trapezoid in the rock wall Oval in the chains Rhombuses on the steps The bolts on the playground are hexagons!  Trapezoid on the playground sign pole During our morning task this week, students worked on "bossy r" word scrambles and did some fraction practice! We're learning different ways to represent fractions. We also enjoyed playing a fraction game with some of our buddy class!  This week in math we also started learning about shapes! Students were given a little pre-assessment to see
