Hi Everyone! I apologize for the lack of blog posts this week - it's been very busy! Today we started on the province of Ontario for our map! We've been enjoying gym outdoors, practicing for the winter concert, and today we were busy all afternoon making cat treats! Tomorrow is the Winter Concert! Students are welcome to dress a little nicer than usual but can wear what they do on a daily basis as well. Students are just asked NOT to wear anything on their head (ie. hats or tall headbands) so that everyone can be seen on stage. Students will need to arrive by 7:10pm tomorrow. See you there! AARCS Fundraiser Room 12 and 13 are doing a fundraiser to raise money for the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS). During the daytime and evening winter concert shows on Thursday, December 13th, we will be selling homemade Crunchy Tuna Cat Treats and Blueberry Dog Bites. Each bag will cost $3 and all proceeds will go towards AARCS to help ensure the animals in their car

Hi everyone! This morning we had Explore and Play as well as our last library time of 2018! All library books need to be returned by Monday, December 17th. Our weekly words come from the "-ow" family this week (with a long vowel sound!) Our photocopier has been out of commission so students wrote their words once in their books and I quickly typed them so they would have another copy to take home. In the afternoon we worked in our classroom literacy groups. Students were given a picture prompt to write about. They had the choice between a spy mouse, a superhero squirrel, and a car stuck in a tree. They will continue with their writing tomorrow afternoon! We also introduced Manitoba today and began adding it to our map. Students will finish up with this tomorrow!  AARCS Fundraiser Room 12 and 13 are doing a fundraiser to raise money for the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS). During the daytime and evening winter concert shows on Thursday, December

Hello everyone! I wrote this yesterday after school and forgot to hit "post"... whoops! This morning were visited by our OT and PT. They did a "Good Morning Yoga" activity with us. You can also check out "Good Night Yoga."  Students then went to music. During work period we practiced our weekly words and continued working on our MakeItMerry cards. In the afternoon we had mindful minutes and guest reader. The students then had some more time to finish up their cards or choose a responsible work choice. At the end of the day we watched a video about Brazil and the United States as some of our classmates are traveling there soon! We also read a story called "Moosletoe" and tested out the Good Night Yoga. Monday will be our last library time until the new year! Have an awesome weekend!

Hello everyone! This morning we had our daily 5 literacy time and practiced our weekly words from the "-ar" family. We then talked about the province of Saskatchewan. We watched a video about Saskatchewan and students continued with their own maps. Our guest reader went a little long so we used Go Noodle in the classroom today for PE. In the afternoon we continued with our mindful minutes that is becoming more mindful every day! We also started some literacy groups within our classroom, with the support of Ms. Kassam, that is mostly focused on writing skills. Students then went to music. At the end of the day we practiced our skip counting, read a math story about skip counting sheep, and watched Canada Crew. I am still looking for volunteers for the morning of January 30th for our Clay for Kids activity. I am also still looking for volunteers to support us during the afternoon of Wednesday, December 12th to help us bake our AARCS treats! Have a great evening!

Hello families, This morning we had library and and talked about mindfulness. We read the story "Sloth at the Zoom" and "I am Peace." We compared being mindful to a sailboat. We need to anchor ourselves sometimes so the waves (thoughts and worries) can't bother us. We can do this by placing our hands and feet on a hard surface and focusing on our breath! We are working on having a more successful Mindful Minutes in the afternoon. Students will continue to have the choice of doing a guided mindfulness activity on the SmartBoard in our room, reading a book independently in Miss Ireland's room, mindful colouring or their own quite mindfulness activity while watching the SmartBoard (Music and images) in Miss Ireland's. We discussed how practicing mindfulness can help bring us back to the green zone so we are ready to learn after lunch time. In the afternoon Ms. Kassam was in the classroom while I was in a meeting. Students chose their weekly words fr
