Monday

Hello families,

This morning we had library and and talked about mindfulness. We read the story "Sloth at the Zoom" and "I am Peace." We compared being mindful to a sailboat. We need to anchor ourselves sometimes so the waves (thoughts and worries) can't bother us. We can do this by placing our hands and feet on a hard surface and focusing on our breath! We are working on having a more successful Mindful Minutes in the afternoon. Students will continue to have the choice of doing a guided mindfulness activity on the SmartBoard in our room, reading a book independently in Miss Ireland's room, mindful colouring or their own quite mindfulness activity while watching the SmartBoard (Music and images) in Miss Ireland's. We discussed how practicing mindfulness can help bring us back to the green zone so we are ready to learn after lunch time.

In the afternoon Ms. Kassam was in the classroom while I was in a meeting. Students chose their weekly words from the "-ar" family.

Library
If you are going on vacation before our Winter Break, please try to return your library books before you leave. All library books will need to be returned by Monday, December 17th. Our last library time before the break will be Monday the 10th.

AARCS Fundraiser
We have decided to make and sell treats for our AARCS fundraiser. Students in room 13 will be making crunchy tuna cat treats, and room 12 will be making apple pumpkin dog treats. We will be making the treats the afternoon of Wednesday, December 12th and we will be selling them during the Winter Concert. If you are interested in helping us out on December 12th (from 12:45-2:45) please let me know via email!

MakeItMerry
This week we will be making holiday cards for the MakeItMerry initiative. The goal is to provide every homeless person in Calgary with a holiday card. I will be dropping them off on Friday afternoon. If you're interested in making more at home you can send them to the school by Thursday and I will drop them off for you! We will be talking more about this as a class on Wednesday.
