Hello everyone! This morning we had library and chose our words from the "-ock" family. In the afternoon we had some Daily 5 Literacy time and then students had music. Tomorrow will be our second day of swimming!  Remember to bring all your labelled, swimming gear!  We continue to have a big issue with bringing toys into the classroom. I'm finding that they are becoming very distracting during work time and are causing a lot of conflicts. I have stopped giving warnings and have been taking the toys away. I told students that I will give the toys back at the end of the day but starting tomorrow, if toys are out, I will keep them until the end of the week. I don't like to be the bad guy but the toys, and especially the Hatchimals, are really disrupting the classroom. LBS Volunteer Celebration  🍵 Please join us for tea!  We will treat you to delicious treats and student entertainment.  Date: Friday, May 10, 2019   Time: 11:00am   Location: L

Hi everyone! This week we have been acting as shape detectives to determine mystery shapes! We have also been working on our animal research and reviewing some of the protocol and importance of our sharing circles. Students will be having music on Monday afternoons instead of Tuesday afternoons during swimming so they do not miss out on music. We will be swimming again on Tuesday and Thursday next week. Don't forget about library on Monday! Here's a math question to discuss this weekend if you're interested! Which shape does not belong? So many different answers!

Hello everyone!  This morning we chose our Weekly Words from the "-ark" family.  Our ducks are growing a lot!! We took two more eggs out of the incubator that don't seem to be growing. We still have 12 eggs that seem to be growing. We could only see a dime-sized black dot inside and the others are growing and moving a lot. I hope this video works, as it would not play in my blog preview.  This afternoon we had some daily 5 time and students went to music. During music, we had a fire drill.

Hello everyone! Thank you to everyone for getting the swimming forms returned on time! On Tuesday, Miss Ireland and I will send out an email to our volunteers just to confirm dates! We have been working hard this week! We have been continuing to learn about different shapes and next week we have some fun activities planned for this! We have also been working on some animal research and we continue to learn about our ducklings and the growth that has been happening inside the eggs. So far, we have taken out 1 egg that does not seem to be growing, and there are 2 more that don't seem to be growing very much. I wonder if we will end up with 12 ducklings! We may have gone overboard... Today we also did some Easter art! Have a great long weekend. Keep your fingers crossed for the Flames!! Happy Easter - see you on Tuesday! 🐣

Hello families, Today we chose words from the "-ing" family. There were SO many words to choose from. Thank you to everyone who has returned their swimming forms. They are due back by Wednesday, April 17th as I need to drop them off at Trico so they can begin planning their groups. Please let me know if you need another copy of the forms. At the end of the day today, we got a chance to candle some of our duck eggs to see if they were growing. Here are some photos! We can see the growth much clearer in person. We've been chatting every day about what is happening inside the eggs. Today they have started growing brains, hearts, ears, beaks, stomachs, tongues and combs.

Hi Everyone! Thank you to everyone who has already returned the swimming forms. We need to have them back by Wednesday, April 17th  so we can return them to the Trico Centre in time for them to put students into appropriate groups. We have been talking about shapes all week! So far, the grade 1s have been learning about: circle, oval, square, triangle, rectangle, rhombus, and trapezoid. The grade 2s have been learning about: sphere, cone, cylinder, cube, rectangular prism, triangular prism, and square-based pyramid. We talk about all the shapes as a whole class so the grade 2s can have a review, and the grade 1s can learn the basics of some of the 3D shapes if they are ready for that. Yesterday we were doing some research on ducks using the program PebbleGO (I'm not sure if you are able to access it from home which is unfortunate!) It's a great program for beginning research that reads the information aloud. Next week, students will be choosing their own animals to study.

Today we continued talking about our ducklings! We learned about the duck lifecycle as well as the different parts of an egg and the jobs they have. Today we also practiced some research skills and refreshed our memories about chickens. Tomorrow we will be doing some research on ducks, and next week students will have the chance to learn more about an animal of their choosing! If you crack open an egg, you should be able to see all of the parts we talked about today! We will also do this at school tomorrow! Thank you so much to all of our amazing parents who have offered to volunteer for swimming! We now have a lot of you, so thank you! I will contact everyone to finalize dates as well as letting you know which days we need  you, although you are welcome to come any day! I will also contact you to find out your preference for meeting at the school (1:10ish) or meeting at Trico (1:25ish).

SWIMMING -_PLEASE READ   🏊 Swimming forms came home today. There are three parts to this form: Parent Letter, Swimming Ability Form, and the Acknowledgement of Risk form. Please return the Swimming Ability Form and the Acknowledgement of Risk form by next Wednesday, April 17th. I would suggest keeping the Parent Letter for your reference, but returning the bottom portion to let me know how you chose to pay for the swimming. We are also still looking for male volunteers for swimming. At this point, we do not have any male volunteers.   Arts Commons Field Trip   🎭 We are excited to finally be going on our Arts Commons field trip. We will be going to the Arts Commons on Wednesday, May 15th. We will be leaving LBS at 9am and returning at 2:30pm. I currently have two volunteers for this trip and would love to get 2-3 more. Please let me know if you're available. The forms for this trip will be sent home in the near future.  Ducks   🦆 Today we started talking about what

Hello everyone! Here were the choices for this week's Weekly Words from the "-unk" family. As I'm sure you have heard, the students learned about our classroom surprise this morning! We had some eggs in our classroom! The students worked together to determine what kind of eggs they are. What do you think? We will put them in the incubator tomorrow and in 4 weeks time they will hatch (hopefully!) We have lots of fun stuff planned in the upcoming month! 🐣 A brochure regarding summer soccer camps also came home today.

Thursday

Choir   🎵 Choir started yesterday for those students who were interested! I thought I would share the songs we are working on so you can listen at home and get familiar with the words if you want! They are singing... Creedence Clearwater Revival - Have You Ever Seen The Rain Bobby McFerrin -  Don't Worry, Be Happy Again, this is only for students who joined the choir club on Wednesdays at lunch and returned a signed form. Math   🔢 In math, we have started to talk about shapes. The grade 1s are currently working on exploring 2D shapes and the grade 2s are exploring 3D shapes. So far we have talked about circles, ovals, spheres, and cones. Surprise!   😯 Students learned today that there will be a classroom surprise next week. They wrote about what they thought the surprise might be and why. They will find out on Monday! Sharing Assembly I've mentioned it before on the blog but thought I should include another reminder about our sharing assembly. Rooms 6, 12, and 1

Hello families, I hope everyone had a fun and restful March Break! This morning we had library and chose our Weekly Words from the "-ell" family. Our daily schedule is going to change a little bit as our extra classroom support schedule is changing. We will be doing Guest Reader in the morning time and Daily 5 literacy every day after Mindful Minutes in the afternoon. In the afternoon, we had our Mindful Minutes time and Daily 5. Several students are having a hard time with remembering to switch their R.E.D. books in the morning and I always seem to forget to remind them, so I will be asking them to do it in the afternoon during Daily 5. Hopefully you will start seeing books more often. We then had more work time where students finished choosing their Weekly Words and started writing about their March Break. At the very end of the day, students were given a new spot to sit at for the month of April and we did our jobs and continued reading Smallfoot. Scholastic
