Hello families, I feel like Christmas came early today. Thank you so much for all of your kind gifts! This morning we finally finished up our 12 Days of Christmas books and practiced our words. When students were done their work, they could choose a free choice activity. In the afternoon we had caroling! Each class was responsible for singing a part of the 12 Days of Christmas song. Ours was number 7 so every time that lyric came, our class stood up and sang. Afterwards, we watched "The Cat in the Hat Knows a lot About Christmas" and enjoyed a few treats. Students are also bringing home a little ornament I made! Have a wonderful Christmas and Holiday season! See you on January 6th! (If anything was left behind today, I will be here tomorrow!) Hello Families, Lake Bonavista School is looking for donations of board games, card games, puzzles and coloring books. If you have any gently used games that your family has outgrown, would you consider donating the

Hello families! I am finally back - seems like something is definitely taking over our class (and the school!) good thing the break is near! This morning we started our day with some Christmas caroling in the gym. I then swapped classes with another teacher to read each other's classes a story. Ms. Arnold was in our class and I went to hers! She is a grade 3/4 teacher at our school. Students then had music and in gym we played freeze dance with Christmas music. During work period, we added the 11th page of our books and practiced our weekly words! In the afternoon, we were visited by our student teacher who will be joining us for 5 weeks in January. We are all really looking forward to out time with her! The students worked on some fun Christmas math problems or math games. Students also brought home a brown bag with a Christmas gift inside! Tomorrow is holiday sweater day! Remember to wear your favourite holiday sweaters, shirts, dresses, etc! 🎄🎅 Hermit Crabs I

Hello families, Today we did our Weekly Words a little differently! Students worked with a partner to brainstorm as many Christmas/holiday works they could in 10 minutes. We then organized them based on how many letters are in each word and then students could chose 5-8 words from the list. We also worked on the 9th page of our 12 Days of Christmas books and continued working on Christmas cards. I took some photos from the 8th page last week and forgot to post them, so here they are! In the afternoon I wasn't feeling well and went home. There must be some sort of bug going around but I am hoping to be back tomorrow. Luckily I wrote this blog during snack time! Students had had gym and music while I was away! This week we are looking forward to caroling Tuesday-Thursday, having a visit from AARCS on Tuesday, and being visited by our student teacher on Wednesday (she will be joining us in the new year for 5 weeks!) On Thursday, we will have a bit of a Christmas cele

Hello families! Today we had a lot of work time! During work period, students added to their 12 Days of Christmas book, practiced their weekly words, and started working on this math task. Students were encouraged to use materials and give multiple answers! Students worked on these things before gym and after gym we met on the carpet to discuss some of the strategies that had been used so far and to share our ideas. You have  20  ornaments for your Christmas tree. They are are  blue ,  red  or  green .  How many of each  colour  could you have? In gym, we played a game called "Do you want to build a snowman?" Where students ran around the gym in order to collect equipment and worked in teams to build a snowman. They had so much fun! I managed to get 1 picture on Photo Booth without students' faces in it.  In the afternoon, we had Daily 5 literacy and talked a little bit more about our AARCS fundraiser. Hello families, This morning students were introduced to a writing task that they will be working on between now and Dec. 19. I did this 2 years ago and the students loved it so I thought we'd do it again! This task is based on the song "The 12 Days of Christmas." We watched this video in case someone was not familiar with the song and we also read " Pete the Cat's 12 Groovy Days of Christmas. " Students will be adding a page to their own book every day following a similar pattern - "On the ___ day of Christmas by teacher gave to me..." This means there are only 12 days of school left until Winter Break! We talked about how many syllables to use if we want our writing to sound similar to the original tune, but students did not have to use the correct number of syllables. For the first one, I helped them turn their ideas into something with more syllables. During snack, we listened to a read aloud of "The 12 Worst Days of Christmas" and

Hello families! This morning we practiced our weekly words and then spent some time looking at the artifacts from our Museo-Kit we started working with last week. The students had some really interesting guesses for what the items were used for. Please see last Thursday's blog for photos of each artifact. Students used gloves to touch the objects as well. We determined quite a few of the items were used to make butter. During snack, we watched this video about how to make butter.  We also watched this interesting but funny video about school lunches through the decades. We went through half of the items together on the carpet, and then after lunch we looked at the other 9 items in a "museum style." We also had library and guest reader this afternoon! I had some photos to share but my Air Drop doesn't seem to be working today! 1. Nutmeg grater 2. Stainless steel skimmer spoon 3. Soap saver 4. Fruit squeezer 5. Apple parer 6. Metal milk skimmer 7. Hello families! Students were in for a surprise this morning when they came into the classroom and saw that things were moved around. They were very excited! I was just feeling like a change was necessary. This week we chose words from the "-ug" family. We talked about the word "drug" as medicine and going to Shoppers Drug Mart or the "drug store." We also had time for Daily 5 literacy and Guest Reader. In the afternoon, we had gym and music!
