Literacy This week we reviewed the letters J and K. Students wrote about their weekends. This week we are going to focus on legibility and spaces. We read lots of Halloween stories and re-visited the Junie B. Jones book that we stopped reading for awhile.  One of the books we read this week was The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin. This story is mostly about accepting others even if they are different. We also watched the movie in three sections and students drew about what happened at the beginning and middle of the story. This week we will finish this activity and do some comparing between the book and movie. Math Students enjoyed playing Spider Legs this week with a partner! We all worked together to count up the pumpkin seeds in each of our pumpkins by making groups of 10 and skip counting. Students also practiced their tally marks and graphing when we collected data about who liked and did not like the pumpkin seeds.  Science Students had fun learning a little bit about what

Veterans Food Drive

Veterans Food Drive Dear Parents and Guardians,  The Grade 6 Students in Action Club have organized and will be running a food drive starting on   November 1st and ending on November 16th.  The collected food will be going to the Veterans Food Bank, as Remembrance Day is coming up and we would like to show our appreciation for our Veterans.  This also connects to our learning in preparing for the upcoming Remembrance Day assembly that Room 7 and Room 8 will be hosting.  Please bring non-perishable food items such as: soup, pasta, baby food, cereal, peanut butter, protein or granola bars, trail mix and canned goods like fish or vegetables. Any other non-perishable items that you think of are welcomed to be donated. Don’t forget to try and bring some gluten free or nut free items in case of anyone with allergies. Hello families!  We had another busy week together!  Literacy This week we reviewed the letter 'R' with the character Rosie Raccoon. The letter "R" sound is a very tough one! If your child is having trouble with the pronunciation, please keep in mind that children often don't develop this sound until 7 or older. We also reviewed the letter "H" with the character Hippy Hippo.  Students also did some writing and drawing to help me think of a Halloween costume for this year! Here are a few! Some of the writing was copied from a whiteboard and some was sounded out with support or independently. Math We have been focusing in on our teen numbers. This week we looked at the numbers 11 and 12. Students built the numbers using the Montessori Bead Bars, stamped the numbers, coloured the correct quantity and came up with different addition questions to make the numbers. Students were provided with three different options and could choose the difficulty level that b

Hello families!  I apologize for the late blog post. I ran out of time on Friday afternoon and left my laptop charger at school all weekend... oops!  Literacy This week we reviewed the letters T with our characters Timmy Tiger and Terrible Tommy T Rex, and the letter S with Sadie Seal. We continue with Daily 5 literacy time each day, and tried some writing about our weekends.  Math In math, we reviewed the number 10 and started looking at our teen numbers. I gave students a little pre-assessment to see if they were able to count and identify quantities from 10-20, and draw these quantities using a tens frame. We will be continuing to work with our teen numbers next week!  Science Last week we briefly talked about opaque, translucent and transparent. Students drew three pictures and covered each with a different type of material. We also watched this video to review this concept.  The Great Lessons We continued with two more demonstrations from the first Montessori Great Lesson. We disc

Hello families!  We had A LOT going on this week! We were so busy that I did not do a very good job with taking photos throughout the week. Make sure to check out the upcoming dates as our Active Living Committee has planned some fun spirit days coming up!  Have a lovely Thanksgiving long weekend!  Literacy This week we focused on the letters 'A' and 'D.' The students have enjoyed reading the story and learning the songs and actions for each character. They also love the Storybots, ABC Mouse and Captain Seasalt videos for each letter. The students have been continuing to enjoy our Daily 5 Literacy time each day! Here are the letters we have reviewed so far: P, U, O, M, X, A and D.  Math In math we have been continuing to review our numbers to 10. This week we focused on 8 and 9.
