Hello families,  What a week! We've been busy with lots of learning and finally enjoying some nicer weather!  I know students (and teachers!) had quite a scare this week when we had a medical emergency in the classroom. We've chatted lots about this and I've done my best to calm nerves and ease worries. I want to assure you that everyone is ok!  Here's what we got up to this week!  Literacy This week we continued learning about digraphs during our UFLI lessons! We focused on the two sounds of "th" this week which we call the voiced and unvoiced sounds. We enjoyed using our new Word Work mats that were put together by parent volunteers during Worker Bee! Make sure to follow our school's Instagram account so you know when the next Worker Bee session is (and of course other updates!) @Montessori_LBS . We worked on brainstorming words with sh and th. Grade 2s had to write a sentence for their words. We also talked about the difference between the "th"

Hello Families,  Here's our weekly update! Also, we decided on the name Cleo for our new hermit crab! Literacy This week we learned about digraphs. Digraphs are two consonants that go together to make one sound. We learned "ck" and "sh." Students enjoyed learning two poems - The Sick Duck and Hungry Shark. Ask your child about the actions for ck and sh! Here's some roll and read games you can play at home for ck and sh!  ck -  https://ufli.education.ufl.edu/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/44_RollRead_UFLI-Foundations.pdf sh -  https://ufli.education.ufl.edu/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/45_RollRead_UFLI-Foundations.pdf  We also started learning about what makes a sentence and looked at examples and non-examples of sentences. Students worked to re-arrange a sentence and grade 2 students were challenged with adding adjectives and more detail to make the sentence more interesting.  Here are words for next week! (Sorry I forgot them in last week's blog post!) Each m

Hello families,  Happy New Year!  We've had a busy, and VERY cold week back to school!  This week I had to share with students that one of our hermit crabs, Sheldon, passed away before the winter break. I think he molted and then didn't find a new shell for whatever reason. I didn't want to tell them going into Christmas! This group of students is so invested in the crabs! However, I did pick up a new hermit crab so Jimmy wouldn't be alone. We are deciding between two names - Dewey and Cleo and will do our final vote on Tuesday. He (or she... it's really almost impossible to tell) is quite small compared to Jimmy but seems to be settling in well!  Math In math this week, we did a bit of a review for patterns! Students were practicing their repeating patterns and grade 2s were practicing increasing and decreasing patterns.  We also continued learning about graphing. We collected data about the winter activities students did over the break (skiing, snowboarding, skati
