Hello everyone!  This week we are doing summer themed weekly words - each student chose a list for the week!  Blue List: sun, fun, run, June, rest, trip Green List: July, flowers, hiking, outside, summer, shorts Orange List: camping, air conditioner, August, gardening, frisbee, sandcastle The students really enjoyed art day today. We did this in collaboration with Miss Ireland, Mr. Link and Mrs. Green. Students did 3/4 of the art activities and each teacher taught a different one. Here are some pictures from my pineapple art and Mr. Link's jellyfish art! Our class also did some step-by-step drawings with Mrs. Green and we may have to borrow Miss Ireland's dragonfly painting activity later this week!  Here are the activities for the rest of the week. Today we tried to earn stuffed animals for tomorrow but unfortunately we did not! Students can bring a 2 things... 1. a blanket OR a sleeping bag,  2. and a flashlight if you want to send one! Hello families! Today we chose words from the "-oat" family for our weekly words. We also graphed the data from last week's book collection in a bar graph. In the afternoon we had some quiet reading time and then moved on to a "final project." I thought it would be fun to end the year with students choosing a project to work on. I saw some half written stories while working on report cards that have so much potential and I thought it would be fun to push those students to illustrate and create a book and I know some other students have been interested in comics. I gave the students some rules and we brainstormed some ideas. If you get a chance to talk to your child about this and help them come up with an idea, or a way to make their idea even better, that would be awesome! We will be working on this throughout the next week.  Report Cards Report cards will be coming home on the last day of school. We are not able to send them home before th

Hello families! Can you believe there are only 9 days left?! (But who's counting...) We have been working on creating pictographs and bar graphs. We collected the data of all of the books collected for the book swap! Next week we will be creating bar graphs to show this information. Please note that next Friday, June 21st will be Sports Day! Our last day of school is Thursday, June 27th. It will be an early dismissal day at 12:15pm. Report cards will be sent home on the last day. We are looking at having some fun themed days for the last week of school so I will keep you posted on those! The students will be "earning" them, which I will make sure happens somehow, but I need some sort of ammo for the next week! Have a great weekend and Happy Father's Day too all of the Dads!!

Hello everyone! As I'm sure you heard, I had to leave abruptly yesterday because I was ill. I was hit with a excruciating migraine and had to get home. I always try to stick-it-out when I'm not feeling well but that definitely couldn't be done! Yesterday morning we set our butterflies free in the school yard! Today we enjoyed a beautiful day at Fish Creek. Most of my pictures have students faces in them but I'll see if I have some to share later this week. I'm sure everyone will be exhausted this evening! There are just a few days left to bring in books for the book swap! So far we have about 65 books. On Friday we will be enjoying the book swap and some buddy reading with our buddy class.

Hello everyone! Today we started our day by watching a video from Corolla Calf Robe about Buffalo. Her son tells the story of how some different places in the Blackfoot territory got their name. We have also decided to record the data of how many books our class can collect for Friday's book swap. From Monday, June 10 th   to Friday, June 14 th , Lake Bonavista School will be celebrating literacy and promoting summer reading through a Book Drive and Swap! Throughout the week, student volunteers will be coordinating a Book Drive of gently used books that are no longer needed in your home libraries. Students will receive 1 ticket for every 2 books they bring in for the Book Drive. The Book Swap will take place on Friday, June 14 th   where students will have the opportunity to go “shopping” for new-to-them books with their tickets. All additional books will be donated to a school in need. In addition, on Friday, June 14 th   we will be celebrating our love of

Thursday

Hi families, Just a reminder that there is no school tomorrow! We will see everyone on Monday! We will not be having library for the remainder of the year, but on Monday we will be having a library presentation in the morning and we will be visited by an Elder in the afternoon. If you have any library books out, they need to be returned for Monday! Have a great weekend!

Hi everyone! We had a great day at Fish Creek today - expect your children to be tired tonight! In the morning we had a sharing circle and did a "walk alongside" to learn about the Aspen trees and Dogwood. I know some of our volunteers were quite interested in the use and stories behind plants. We used the Kainai Plant Index . We also did a sit spot and some exploring time in the afternoon. Each group will have had a bit of a diferent experience, depending on where they went for the afternoon. I know in my group we had to have some chats about some inappropriate graffiti. The ONE time I wish they couldn't read... Here are some photos from our day!

Hi families! I apologize for not posting our weekly words yesterday. We had an event after school and I completely forgot. This week we are focusing on "-ite" words. Tomorrow we are headed to Fish Creek! Remember to double check with weather and dress appropriately!
