August 29-30

Our first two days of school in room 11 were great! We enjoyed reading some stories together, getting to know each other and our classroom space, and students enjoyed exploring different work choices together in the classroom. We've also already celebrated two birthdays in the classroom! We had gym outside on Thursday and Friday and are looking forward to joining Ms. Zimmer's class for gym next week!

We talked a lot about different expectations at school and why it's important to follow the classroom expectations. I always use my cat, Eli, to show listening expectations on the carpet.

A notice from School Council came home today! (At least one was found on the ground so I just wanted to make sure everyone saw)

Soft Entry
We will be starting "Soft Entry" on Wednesday, September 4th. This means that students can arrive between 8:00-8:10 am, come through the garden doors and walk down to their classrooms. The teachers will be on supervision at the door, in the hallway, and in the classrooms. During these 10 minutes, students will be able to enjoy some visiting time where they can talk with their friends, have a quick snack, or choose a quiet work choice. The doors will close and instructional time will begin at 8:10am. If you arrive late, please come through the office doors and receive a late slip.

Absences
If your child is going to be absent, please make sure to contact the office via phone or email. I would also appreciate being cc'd on the email so I am kept in the loop!

Snack
During snack time students will be using placemats in their space as part of our Montessori practical-life learning. Something simple that can fit in your child's lunch kit is perfect - even a tea towel works! The placemat is meant to travel to and from school each day. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know.

Shoes and Water Bottles
Please make sure your child has clean indoor shoes that they can put on independently to keep at school. Indoor and outdoor shoes need to be appropriate for physical activity as some days we have physical education outside! Students are more than welcome to keep a water bottle at school in our classroom. Please ensure their name is on any personal items to prevent them getting lost.

Montessori Birthday Walk Around the Sun
At LBS we like to celebrate students' birthdays with the Montessori Walk Around the Sun.  If it is your child's birthday month, you will receive a copy of a Google slideshow for you to add photos about your child each year of their life. This  is optional and you are more than welcome to add on to the slideshow from last year if you made one. *Please  note birthday treats cannot be shared with the whole class as a LBS rule.*

Volunteers
I truly value our volunteers offering their time to support our students inside and outside of the classroom. If you are interested in volunteering please ensure you have a valid police clearance through the CBE as well as have signed the annual volunteer form for 2024/2025. Please note that police clearance can take quite a few weeks to come through so getting it done earlier in the year ensures you will have it for upcoming volunteer opportunities. Please contact the office for more information about getting a CBE police check and signing the annual form.  We will be begin welcoming volunteers in October!

Meet our grade 1/2 team!
