November 1-5

Hello families!

This week we started learning about Remembrance Day. We had some great discussions and watched some videos together. We also learned about artist Georgia O'Keeffe and created some poppy artwork inspired by her poppy paintings. The other grade 1 classes also did some poppy artwork!

We reviewed the letters 'F' and 'B' this week with Farley Fox and Baby Barnaby. We also focused on "sky, grass, dirt" letters and using "spaghetti and meatball" spaces in our writing.

In math, we focused on the numbers 13 and 14. We also learned a couple of math games including "Chips in Jeopardy" and "All Aboard!" These games are from Math Mania, which also has some great resources to use at home - https://www.mmmathmania.com/copy-of-for-educators We've been playing a lot of games as teacher vs class to learn them, and then students are welcome to use these games as "responsible work choices" when their class work is complete.

This week I also added a few new practical life activities such as weaving and some new dressing frames including, buttons, buckles, zippers and snaps.

This week we focused on the Kelso's choice "Make a Deal" and learned all about compromising!

I am still missing some "Cultural Heritage Interviews." If you have not completed it yet, please send this information with your child as soon as possible. We are using this information for an activity this week.

Move-ember

November is movement month at LBS! We are encouraging students to be active throughout the winter with a movement challenge for move-ember :).

Students are encouraged to keep track of their movement minutes outside of school time from November 1-30. The class that earns the most movement minutes at the end of the month will earn a special reward! Please support your child in tracking their movement minutes either on Google Classroom or hardcopy (this will be specified by your child's teacher).

Let’s encourage each other to be active and healthy! See the video for more information about our at school and at home challenges for the month.
