Hello families,


This week in math we learned about the "counting-on" math strategy. We did some practice activities using this strategy. Students also created their own March calendars - we have a busy March and this can help students remember all of the important days! We also learned a new math game called "Four's a Winner."




During our Daily 5 literacy time, we learned how to properly use the Pink Boxes and Blue Boxes. Students really enjoyed using them to learn new words. We also focused on the "-ot" word family and learned a new poem called "Dot the Tot" which students brought home.




We are excited to be able to bring placemats back into the classroom! This week we learned a bit about healthy eating, food groups and the Canadian Food Guide. Students designed their own healthy plates for the placemats. These will be laminated and used at snack and lunch time for the rest of the year.





We had to revisit the idea of a Responsible Work Choices and what that looks and sounds like in the classroom. When students are finished their classwork, they are able to choose an activity that furthers their learning and does not distract their classmates from completing their work.

We are pleased to be hosting a hybrid (In-School and Virtual) Scholastic Book Fair from Friday, March 4, 2022 until Friday, March 11, 2022.  

 

Each class will get an opportunity to visit the Book Fair on Monday, March 7th or Tuesday, March 8th. 

 

Your child will receive a Book Fair Wish List that they can fill in while visiting the book fair. This form will be sent home for you to view, if you would like to purchase anything from your child’s wish list you can choose to use the virtual book fair link (below) or initial next to the item you would like to purchase and send in exact cash in an attached envelope or baggy. Please note, that in-school purchases already include GST.  

 

Cash orders need to be sent in by Thursday, March 10th.  

Online orders will be shipped to the school and sent home with your child when they arrive.

Hello families,  Here's an update from this week!  Math We started the week looking at the calendar for October! Students wrote/drew about the special days in October and brought their calendars home to help keep them organized! We also learned about symmetry. The kids LOVED this song and were able to choose how explore symmetry with blocks, drawing, or dry erase. We learned a math game called "Knockout" which helps students with subitizing and addition fact automaticity. On Friday we learned about tally marks and did a "roll and tally" activity.  Here's a link to the Knockout game - it's really simple and can be played at home (sorry the site has quite a few ads!)  In literacy, we reviewed the letters N, O, D, U and G using UFLI and Animated Literacy. December 11-15

Hello families,  We had a very busy week getting ready for our winter concert and our Calgary Humane Society fundraiser! Students love baking and packaging treats, making posters, and some students were even challenged to learn how to curl the ribbon! On Friday we used our skip counting skills to count up all the money we've raised so far. We've raised $666.85 and are hoping to break our record of $700 from last year! All of this work is connected to our health and wellness curriculum (volunteerism), social studies, science, art, math and literacy! Wow! Math In math we've been continuing to work with number bonds. This week students learned how to determine the missing number in a number bond when given the whole and one of the parts. This is a pre-cursor to subtraction! November 6-9

 Hello families,  We had such a blast at the zoo on Monday! We learned all about penguins and enjoyed exploring the zoo in our groups. Thank you to the amazing volunteers that were able to join us - I hope you had fun too!  This was three generations of lemurs - a baby, mom and grandma! How sweet!  What a day! Math In math we continued to develop our understanding of place value. Students chose "just right" work - ask your child how they know when classroom work is a good level for them! We practiced writing, drawing and building numbers. Students could choose between teen numbers, numbers to 100, and numbers to 1000. Here's an ABCya game to practice place value! Students briefly learned how to use the Room Recess base ten program to practice identifying and building numbers!  Literacy We reviewed our last letter, C, with our character Crazy Camel.
