June 13-17

Hello families,

It has been a quiet week around here! There are lots of students away sick or on vacation.

I apologize for no blog post last week - I have been very busy writing report cards! Report cards will be available online at the end of next week. Please note that if your child's grades did not increase, that does not mean they have shown improvement. If your child is receiving the same grade, it means they were able to keep up with the increase in demand and expectations that come with approaching the end of grade 1.

End of Year Wrap-Up

If your child will be ending the school year prior to Tuesday, June 28th, please send me an email to let me know. On the last day of school for your child, please send a reusable or plastic bag so they can bring home their workbooks and other belongings.

In math we have been working on some word problems and showing our thinking with pictures, words and numbers. We also did some review of patterns.

Once the rain finally subsided, we went to the garden to sketch some of the new plants and flowers and students shared what they already know about plants. We even spotted some pollinators!

This week we also began learning about the Seven Sacred Teachings. We focused on the bison first which teaches us respect.

We also worked on a little Father's Day activity this week which led to some origami practice. We also started an animal research project with our big buddies using the program PebbleGO. The students really enjoyed this and learned some research skills from their buddies.

On Friday, we talked about syllables and did an activity where students sorted words that had 1, 2, or 3 syllables. We talked about clapping out the syllables or counting how many times our chin drops (with your hand under your chin) and making sure we say the words normally!
