Wednesday

Hi Everyone,

This morning we had daily 5 literacy and during snack we watched Zoboomafo. I thought since the kids love Wild Kratts so much, they might enjoy watching the show that I used to watch with the same people. They loved it, of course, and learned about some different animals that swim and the adaptations that help them to swim.

During work period we were working on spelling, writing, days and weeks and our shapes from yesterday. We also moved on to editing our work. I am amazed at the improvement I have seen in the students' writing! For gym we enjoyed some time outside - the weather is just too nice not too! We will be continuing with handball on Friday though.

In the afternoon we had guest reader and started talking about measurement. In Grade 1 and 2 we use "non-standard" units of measurement. We talked about different objects we could use to measure. We practiced by estimating how many feet (actual human feet) it would take to walk around the playground and then found the actual measurement. Students have 4 given objects they will estimate and measure tomorrow so today they chose a 5th item of their choice. Students also estimated the order of objects from shortest to longest. Tomorrow morning we will be estimating and measuring our objects using our chosen non-standard measuring tool and they we will put them in the actual order of smallest to largest.

At the end of the day we had a few more minutes of work period or silent reading/math games for the students who were finished. We also enjoyed some birthday cupcakes and began watching a Bill Nye video about buoyancy. Some students have been using their explore and play time in the morning to rebuild their boats.

Please remember to send your child with their swimming gear tomorrow! I will be away in the afternoon but students will be working with a sub during their swimming time in the afternoon.
