Hi Everyone!

This morning we had daily 5 and quickly practiced our assembly poem in our groups. During work period we worked on spelling and writing. Students had the option to choose between a weekend journal or responding to: "If you could be anyone in the world who would you be and why?"

We decided to change things up for spelling for the last 2 weeks of school. Students went through their writing books to pick out 8 words they had spelled incorrectly. The words were written out once in their spelling books and once on a blue piece of paper (looks like a spelling quiz) that will be coming home today. They will get with a partner on Friday to quiz each other.

For gym, we wasted a lot of time not cleaning up after work period and talking in line so instead of going outside we ended up doing gym in the classroom with Go Noodle. We decided to try the Go Noodle Plus free trial so we could try some new activities. We used our gym time today to practice for the assembly in the gym. We will likely go outside early for gym this week and continue to use our gym time to practice for Thursday.

In the afternoon students had music and guest reader. At the end of the day we got together with Miss Ireland's class to continue practicing our poem (we will do this every day this week!) and we watched a video about carnivorous plants. We had a lot of trouble listening during this activity. It might be a long 12 days!

Field trip forms for Fish Creek were sent home today. This trip is on Tuesday, June 19th and we are still looking for volunteers! The cost of the trip is $5 and because it is so late in the year, the online payment and office payments will be unavailable. Please send cash or a cheque to the school instead.

TOYS AND EQUIPMENT FROM HOME
Please ensure any toys or equipment from home are kept at home! Students throughout the whole school have been asked to keep these items at home. If they need to bring them for after school activities they should stay in the students' backpack.

LOST AND FOUND
The Lost and Found items have been set out on a table by the front office. Please find some time to go through the items if you think you are missing something. I will also bring the students through to take a look. ALL ITEMS WILL BE DONATED ON WEDNESDAY, JUNE 20TH IF THEY HAVE NOT BEEN CLAIMED. After school is a great time to come in and take a look.

Hello families,   We made it through our first (almost) full week of school! We are focusing a lot on learning expectations and building classroom community. We’ve been enjoying starting each day in circle getting to know our classmates.  The pictures will be a little limited for the first few weeks until we have photo release information!  This week we talked a lot about carpet expectations. We read a story called “Whole-Body Listening at School” and learned about Listening Larry. Ask your child how many parts of our body we can listen with… it’s not just our ears. You can also follow up with “Whole Body Listening at Home” if this is something you are working on at home as well! December 11-15

Hello families,  We had a very busy week getting ready for our winter concert and our Calgary Humane Society fundraiser! Students love baking and packaging treats, making posters, and some students were even challenged to learn how to curl the ribbon! On Friday we used our skip counting skills to count up all the money we've raised so far. We've raised $666.85 and are hoping to break our record of $700 from last year! All of this work is connected to our health and wellness curriculum (volunteerism), social studies, science, art, math and literacy! Wow! Math In math we've been continuing to work with number bonds. This week students learned how to determine the missing number in a number bond when given the whole and one of the parts. This is a pre-cursor to subtraction! First Days

Hello families!  We had a great first week of school! I have a goal this year to be a little more concise with my blog posts. We'll see how it goes!  This week we spent some time getting to know each other. We learned about sharing circles and have started both mornings in circle getting to know more about one another. We are learning the importance of listening to each other and giving everyone a chance to speak.  We also read the story "You're Finally Here" by Melanie Watt. We enjoyed re-creating the main character of the story. It was great to see students' cutting skills and their ability to follow each step of the activity. We talked about how the eyebrows can convey different feelings and can really change the bunny's expression.  On Friday we learned a math game called "What's My Number?" we played teacher versus students and they beat me!
