Hello families,

Today we chose words from the "-og" family. I picked up some large floor puzzles for the class to use and they were a popular responsible work choice today. I saw a lot of good team work! We also had some daily 5 literacy time this morning, and guest reader. I think everyone was very happy that our week of indoor recesses has come to an end!


In the afternoon we went over some expectations and safety rules for gymnastics. This week, the students are using the Canadian Climber and some other gymnastics equipment such as balance beams, trestles and ramps. After recess, students went to music.

Field Trip Forms
Today I sent home field trip forms for our upcoming field trip to the Leighton Art Centre on Monday, February 10th. The forms are due back by Friday, February 6th, but sooner is always better and helps me to get organized ahead of time! If you have reached out to me about volunteering, you will also be getting a volunteer form. Please return the blue form and keep the white form!

We will be having library tomorrow afternoon! 📚

Hello families,  Here's an update from this week!  Math We started the week looking at the calendar for October! Students wrote/drew about the special days in October and brought their calendars home to help keep them organized! We also learned about symmetry. The kids LOVED this song and were able to choose how explore symmetry with blocks, drawing, or dry erase. We learned a math game called "Knockout" which helps students with subitizing and addition fact automaticity. On Friday we learned about tally marks and did a "roll and tally" activity.  Here's a link to the Knockout game - it's really simple and can be played at home (sorry the site has quite a few ads!)  In literacy, we reviewed the letters N, O, D, U and G using UFLI and Animated Literacy. Hello families,  We had a very busy week getting ready for our winter concert and our Calgary Humane Society fundraiser! Students love baking and packaging treats, making posters, and some students were even challenged to learn how to curl the ribbon! On Friday we used our skip counting skills to count up all the money we've raised so far. We've raised $666.85 and are hoping to break our record of $700 from last year! All of this work is connected to our health and wellness curriculum (volunteerism), social studies, science, art, math and literacy! Wow! Math In math we've been continuing to work with number bonds. This week students learned how to determine the missing number in a number bond when given the whole and one of the parts. This is a pre-cursor to subtraction! November 6-9

 Hello families,  We had such a blast at the zoo on Monday! We learned all about penguins and enjoyed exploring the zoo in our groups. Thank you to the amazing volunteers that were able to join us - I hope you had fun too!  This was three generations of lemurs - a baby, mom and grandma! How sweet!  What a day! Math In math we continued to develop our understanding of place value. Students chose "just right" work - ask your child how they know when classroom work is a good level for them! We practiced writing, drawing and building numbers. Students could choose between teen numbers, numbers to 100, and numbers to 1000. Here's an ABCya game to practice place value! Students briefly learned how to use the Room Recess base ten program to practice identifying and building numbers!  Literacy We reviewed our last letter, C, with our character Crazy Camel.
