Friday

Hello families and happy Friday!

This morning we worked with Ms. Grant on our Salvador Dali art. It is quite abstract and is definitely a challenge for some of our students! I don't want to give too much away as we are hoping this inquiry will be a big focus for our upcoming student-led conferences. Students need to choose one dream from their "dream books," so either a dream they have for themselves, their school, their city, province or country. We are hoping for dreams that are a little more substantial and realistic ie. not a dream that unicorns would be in Alberta or a dream to have a new toy. They then need to incorporate a geographical feature of Alberta (ie. the mountains) as well as a symbol of Calgary or Alberta (Calgary Tower, flames, wild rose, petrified wood, maple leaf, etc.) Just like Salvador Dali, they will be changing these symbols into something else to represent their dreams. For example, Ms. Grant's dream was for Calgary to get a new library (before we actually did) so she drew a book that looked like a Chinook cloud. Some students have some HOMEWORK  for this weekend! I am hoping that every student has their one dream to focus on, whether it is a dream for themselves, their school, city, or country, by Monday. Can you please talk to your child this weekend about the one dream they are going to focus on for their artwork so we can continue with this next week. Some of the dreams I have seen so far are for everyone to have a home, less pollution, traveling, reading and writing, etc.'

We also had a quick work period where we continued working on our jobs from earlier this week and did our spelling quiz. We then had our second Alien In-Line session. Thank you so much to our volunteers! We ended our day with a second snack and some Magic School Bus.

Remember to return library books for Monday! Our last Alien Inline session is Wednesday. This will just be with our class - I could use maybe 1-2 volunteers to help out with equipment. Please let me know if you're interested.

Have a great weekend! 😊
