Monday

Hello everyone! This morning we had library and students were joined by a substitute teacher as I was in a meeting. We then chose our weekly words from the "-un" family and we came up with lots of challenge words!

We then had Guest Reader and continued with our gymnastics unit. Please ensure students with long hair are wearing their hair up or bringing a hair tie.

In the afternoon we had our literacy groups with Ms. Kassam and revisted our math problems from last week. I decided to slow it down and give one question to each student and work together on how we can best organize our work and show our thinking to improve our math communication skills! Here is an example!

At the very end of the day we watched a video about the Acadians from National Geographic. We have a busy week coming up this week! We will be learning more about the Acadians in preparation for Wednesday's Clay for Kids visit, working on our Salvador Dali art and talking about our dreams for ourselves and our school, and we will be getting ready for our Valentines gift exchange across Canada. We will create 20 valentines and send them to 20 different schools in Canada and then we will receive a valentine from each of these schools.

Report Cards - PLEASE READ!
As you know, report cards will be coming home on Thursday. Students will be assessed in each area on a scale from 1-4. Please remember that a 2 is a good thing!! It is not equivalent to 2/4 or 50%. Receiving a 2 on a report card means your child is at grade level which is awesome! I hope that the comments I have left for each of your children helps you to have a better idea of their success in the classroom. If you have any concerns after receiving the report card please don't hesitate to contact me. We are only half way through the year so there is still plenty of time for more growth!

Toys in the classroom
I have seen an increase of toys being brought to the classroom. They are becoming quite the distraction and I don't like to be the bad guy who takes them away. I have a suspicion that some toys are being snuck into backpacks. Today I even caught a child trying to sell their toys....
If you could please talk to your child about bringing toys to school I would really appreciate it!

There will be no school this Friday, February 1st!
