Hello everyone!

Today we continued on with talking about our dreams for ourselves and we made Valentine's Day cards to send across Canada. I can't remember if I wrote about this already... but, we made 20 Valentine's cards with familiar Calgary landmarks and logos and used water colour paints. We are sending them to 20 different schools across Canada and then we will receive 20 cards from each of these schools. I will mail them this weekend and we will start to receive our Valentine's over the next couple of weeks. Here are some examples!


At the end of the day we watched a story online about Groundhog day! Let's hope the groundhog doesn't see his shadow on Saturday!

Report cards went home today!! Students have been asked to give the envelope to their parents and then parents can share if they would like to. I am hoping they will see your eyes first! If you did not read my last post about report cards, please do!! Please note that because of our new online attendance system every day your child is absent counts as 2 days because we do attendance twice per day. For example, if you took a week vacation, your child's report card will say they were absent for 14 days, meaning 14 times attendance was taken. Hopefully that makes sense!

THERE IS NO SCHOOL TOMORROW! I hope everyone's looking forward to a long weekend.. I know I am!

Please remember that we will have Library on Monday morning! Next week will be our last week of gymnastics and we will enjoy Mission Impossible!

Hello families,  Here's an update from this week!  Math We started the week looking at the calendar for October! Students wrote/drew about the special days in October and brought their calendars home to help keep them organized! We also learned about symmetry. The kids LOVED this song and were able to choose how explore symmetry with blocks, drawing, or dry erase. We learned a math game called "Knockout" which helps students with subitizing and addition fact automaticity. On Friday we learned about tally marks and did a "roll and tally" activity.  Here's a link to the Knockout game - it's really simple and can be played at home (sorry the site has quite a few ads!)  In literacy, we reviewed the letters N, O, D, U and G using UFLI and Animated Literacy. Hello families,  We had a very busy week getting ready for our winter concert and our Calgary Humane Society fundraiser! Students love baking and packaging treats, making posters, and some students were even challenged to learn how to curl the ribbon! On Friday we used our skip counting skills to count up all the money we've raised so far. We've raised $666.85 and are hoping to break our record of $700 from last year! All of this work is connected to our health and wellness curriculum (volunteerism), social studies, science, art, math and literacy! Wow! Math In math we've been continuing to work with number bonds. This week students learned how to determine the missing number in a number bond when given the whole and one of the parts. This is a pre-cursor to subtraction! November 6-9

 Hello families,  We had such a blast at the zoo on Monday! We learned all about penguins and enjoyed exploring the zoo in our groups. Thank you to the amazing volunteers that were able to join us - I hope you had fun too!  This was three generations of lemurs - a baby, mom and grandma! How sweet!  What a day! Math In math we continued to develop our understanding of place value. Students chose "just right" work - ask your child how they know when classroom work is a good level for them! We practiced writing, drawing and building numbers. Students could choose between teen numbers, numbers to 100, and numbers to 1000. Here's an ABCya game to practice place value! Students briefly learned how to use the Room Recess base ten program to practice identifying and building numbers!  Literacy We reviewed our last letter, C, with our character Crazy Camel.
