Friday

Hi Everyone!

Today we continued reading the 4th Secrets of Droon book. We made some predictions about what we were reading and students did an awesome job giving lots of detail in their predictions and giving reasons for their predictions. We had a short daily 5 literacy time where students could choose read to self, buddy reading or a word work activity. In gym we played revenge tag and 4 corners. During work period students practiced their weekly "-in" words and a few more students finished up their Identity art. We also learned a new even and odd math game based off the story "Odd or Even in a Monstrous Season." Students could add their dice roll together by counting up all the dots or using their own personal addition strategies. If they needed more of a challenge, they could subtract their numbers, roll more dice, or multiply their numbers together. We then enjoyed some free choice time where several students used our Maker Space scrap materials and some other students chose to do a step-by-step drawing on Kids Art Hub.

Here are some photos from our "Mad Science Centres" on Wednesday!

Pumpkin Stem Challenge - students were challenged to work as engineers to create a building out of tooth picks and mini marshmallows that could support a small pumpkin.

Magnet Exploration - students discussed terminology about magnets and tested different objects to see if they were magnetic. They also saw that magnets could work even with the table in between. Students also created mazes and used magnets to guide objects through the maze.

Oil and Water Mixing Experiment - students went through the scientific procedure to determine what happens when we mix oil and water. Students used a dropper to drop coloured water into a petri dish of canola oil. We discussed the idea of density.

We are hoping that field trip forms for Arts Commons will be coming home late next week.

Don't forget to bring in items for JACKET RACKET if you have any gently used outerwear to donate.

Have an awesome weekend!
