Tuesday

Hi families!

This morning we continued talking about Big and Little problems. We looked at this quote and discussed what we thought it meant:

We also watched this really amazing video. I HIGHLY suggest taking a few minutes to watch and and talk to your child about it. This video discusses what happens in the brain that makes us lose control of our emotions and makes us sometimes turn little problems into big problems.

Why do we lose control of our emotions?

We also played the Big Deal Little Deal game!

We then practiced our weekly words from the "-ug" family. We also continued talking about Canada and are starting to work on a big map project! We are taking it one province at a time! We started by watching this awesome song about the provinces and territories of Canada. Today we focused in just on BC. We watched (yet another) video about BC and talked about the things that make BC special. I find videos are the best for talking about places in Canada so the students can actually picture what we're talking about. Students then worked in their groups to outline and label BC on their map and draw symbols inside. We will continue this tomorrow! We discussed how when creating maps we have to really take our time and work very neatly. Here is by example so you can get a better idea!

If anyone is interested in helping us out this week to create some tracers for the provinces that would be awesome! I don't want to take every classrooms' Montessori maps of Canada! Just send me an email 😊

In the afternoon we had our Daily 5 literacy time, again with Ms. Kassam, and the students went to music. At the very end of the day we had some math time. I am attempting to use the last chunk of the day to work with numbers, number talks and skip counting! Today we reviewed greater and less than (the hungry alligator eats the number that's greater!) and we practiced skip counting by 5s and 10s!
