Hello families!

We had a busy day today! Mrs. Green came to give our class a lesson on the Bead Cabinet and the proper way to care for the material. We had a short gym time and we played Snakes in the Grass. We had our first buddy activity with Mr. Pereira's grade 3/4 class. Students did a buddy interview with their big buddy to get to know them and then could choose to draw or read a book with their buddy. During our snack times, I had a special request to check out the show Brain Child so we watched an episode split up between our two snack breaks.

Weekend Homework ðŸ“š
Students are bringing home a "Guess Who" sheet. They will fill out some of their favourite things and then at the end of each day we can read them and try to guess which form is for which student. This will be a way to get to know more about each other. If you could please work with your child to complete this for Tuesday, September 17th, that would be great!

I'm still missing a few Back to School brown envelopes. If you could return them next week that would be greatly appreciated! 

Today our hermit crabs got a new habitat (Thank you Ms. Thomas!) We set up their new habitat so they could have more space. They especially like their "coco hut!" I was hoping we'd have time to name them today but that will have to wait until next week.

Admazing Savings Fundraiser has begun! The proceeds from this fundraising activity will be used directly in your child’s classroom. 
Books are still available for $25.00 each, of which Lake Bonavista will use $10.50 for the benefit of our students.
If you wish to take advantage of these discounts, please complete the order form printed on the back on the ADmazing envelope, and enclose the correct amount of money - $25.00 per book ordered. - directly to your child’s classroom teacher by Thursday, October 10th, 2019  or earlier.
This year there is a free app included in each coupon book. Please ensure if you are returning the book that you have not scratched off the code area for the app, as the book will not be returnable if the code is visible. 
Additional books for Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer or Southern Alberta may be ordered at $25.00 each for family, friends and relatives.  If you wish to order additional books, please send your order as soon as possible to your child’s teacher so that the order can be filled.  As a school, we discourage door-to-door solicitation.

YOU MUST EITHER RETURN THE BOOK OR SEND $25!

Hello families,   We made it through our first (almost) full week of school! We are focusing a lot on learning expectations and building classroom community. We’ve been enjoying starting each day in circle getting to know our classmates.  The pictures will be a little limited for the first few weeks until we have photo release information!  This week we talked a lot about carpet expectations. We read a story called “Whole-Body Listening at School” and learned about Listening Larry. Ask your child how many parts of our body we can listen with… it’s not just our ears. You can also follow up with “Whole Body Listening at Home” if this is something you are working on at home as well! December 11-15

Hello families,  We had a very busy week getting ready for our winter concert and our Calgary Humane Society fundraiser! Students love baking and packaging treats, making posters, and some students were even challenged to learn how to curl the ribbon! On Friday we used our skip counting skills to count up all the money we've raised so far. We've raised $666.85 and are hoping to break our record of $700 from last year! All of this work is connected to our health and wellness curriculum (volunteerism), social studies, science, art, math and literacy! Wow! Math In math we've been continuing to work with number bonds. This week students learned how to determine the missing number in a number bond when given the whole and one of the parts. This is a pre-cursor to subtraction! First Days

Hello families!  We had a great first week of school! I have a goal this year to be a little more concise with my blog posts. We'll see how it goes!  This week we spent some time getting to know each other. We learned about sharing circles and have started both mornings in circle getting to know more about one another. We are learning the importance of listening to each other and giving everyone a chance to speak.  We also read the story "You're Finally Here" by Melanie Watt. We enjoyed re-creating the main character of the story. It was great to see students' cutting skills and their ability to follow each step of the activity. We talked about how the eyebrows can convey different feelings and can really change the bunny's expression.  On Friday we learned a math game called "What's My Number?" we played teacher versus students and they beat me!
