Thursday

Hello families!

I learned yesterday that when you follow the blog by email, you actually end up receiving the email much later than the blog is actually posted? I'm looking into how to fix this! I've heard from parents in the past they receive blog emails at 4am! (I can promise you I'm not writing blogs at 4 in the morning...) I will let you know if I am able to fix this issue so you can see the blogs in a more timely manner. This one should be posted around 3:35pm.

Yesterday students had music in the morning and we continued our discussion about belonging and the groups and communities we belong to. In the afternoon, we did a math activity with numbers to 10 and 20. This activity was based on the story, Mouse Count. Students either got a cup of 10 or 20 counters, and had to spill some in the grass. They then had to count how many were in the grass and either use their mental math skills or counting to determine how many would then be left in the jar. For example if we started with 10 mice and 5 spilled in the grass, we know 5 are left in the jar because 5 and 5 is 10! Students recorded their findings in a chart.

Students have been loving reading the "Guess Who" cards! I snuck my own card in there and almost stumped them!

Today we learned how to use some of our practical life materials.

Did you know that Saturday, September 21st is the International Day of Peace? Today we talked about what peace means and how it means different things to different people. We read the story "What is Peace?" by Wallace Edwards and "Peace is an Offering" by Annette LeBox.

In "What is Peace," the author writes at the beginning, in response to the question: What is peace?
"I still may not have one answer but I did see how important peace is - in whatever form it takes - to living a good life."

Students wrote 3 or more sentences about what they think peace is and next week we will continue with a good copy of this work to be displayed in our classroom. We also enjoyed some free choice time this afternoon.

NO SCHOOL TOMORROW! Tomorrow is a PD day so we will see you on Monday!
