Wednesday

Hello families,

This morning we started talking about the last quarter of the Circle of Courage - independence. Independence is being able to do something on your own, or figuring out how to solve a problem on your own. Students shared some of the things that they can do without any help. I reassured students that I am always here to help but many times I am asked questions that I think students can solve on their own. We read a story called "I Can Do it Myself" on Epic which talked about a little girl who never wanted help from her mom, until she was feeling a little scared at night, and she learned that sometimes she needs help or would like some help. We will continue to talk about independence this week and next week.

This morning students also had music and in gym we continued our catching and throwing skills. During work period, students practiced their "-in" words, continued working on some math assessments, and finished the last page of their Remembrance Day books.

In the afternoon, we had Daily 5 literacy time and continued talking about Remembrance Day. We watched this very powerful video about Remembrance Day as well as this informational video

Dance Club
At lunch today, there was an LBS Dance Club meeting for students interested in joining. Dance Club will be meeting on Wednesdays at lunch time. If students were interested, they will be bringing home a permission form today that needs to be returned before next Wednesday.

Home Reading
I am working towards getting our home reading program organized. Students will be provided with a duotang and folder (same as our communication folders but red) to bring books to and from school. This is meant to provide families with a variety of books to help support reading at home. I do not check in with students every day and do not require anyone to read and exchange books every day. Students can borrow 1 or 2 books, read them at home for as long as they need, and return them to school and choose new books. If you do not feel you need to borrow leveled books from our library, please let me know and I will not make your child a home reading folder. I know a few families opted out last year as they felt the books they have at home were sufficient, which is completely fine by me! Please send me an email if you do not need a home reading folder for your child!

Volunteers Needed for Book Fair

We are pleased to be offering a book fair again this year over Parent Teacher Conferences. We are looking for parent volunteers who would be interested in helping set up the book fair, as well as some parents to help with the book fair while it is running.

If you are able to volunteer during any of the time slots below we would greatly appreciate it! Please email Pam Green with the time and day you are available to help at pngreen@cbe.ab.ca
