Hello families,

Today we had a busy day! In the morning we had some work period time to finish up our healthy plates. Ms. Kassam joined the class during snack and gym time while I tried to fix some technology problems! We then had guest reader and chatted about new math centres that we will be starting next week. We then had a really quick second snack and headed outside for our Winter Walk. During colour groups, each group read a winter story and drew pictures of the story. These will be put together in a big book for the school to share.

Students brought home their Clay for Kids bowls and glass art today. I hope they all make it home safe. If you accidentally receive something with the wrong name or initials on it, please let me know! I sorted them pretty quickly!

We have some exiting things going on next week! Wednesday, February 27th is PINK SHIRT DAY! We have not started talking about Pink Shirt Day in class yet. On this day we will also be working with Code Mobile which will help teach students about technology and coding. I don't think we need volunteers for this but if anyone is interested in joining our time is 1:30-2:30 on Wednesday. Please send me an email to let me know if you'd like to come help out. Please note that next Friday (March 1st) is a PD day!

Hello families,  Here's an update from this week!  Math We started the week looking at the calendar for October! Students wrote/drew about the special days in October and brought their calendars home to help keep them organized! We also learned about symmetry. The kids LOVED this song and were able to choose how explore symmetry with blocks, drawing, or dry erase. We learned a math game called "Knockout" which helps students with subitizing and addition fact automaticity. On Friday we learned about tally marks and did a "roll and tally" activity.  Here's a link to the Knockout game - it's really simple and can be played at home (sorry the site has quite a few ads!)  In literacy, we reviewed the letters N, O, D, U and G using UFLI and Animated Literacy. Hello families,  We had a very busy week getting ready for our winter concert and our Calgary Humane Society fundraiser! Students love baking and packaging treats, making posters, and some students were even challenged to learn how to curl the ribbon! On Friday we used our skip counting skills to count up all the money we've raised so far. We've raised $666.85 and are hoping to break our record of $700 from last year! All of this work is connected to our health and wellness curriculum (volunteerism), social studies, science, art, math and literacy! Wow! Math In math we've been continuing to work with number bonds. This week students learned how to determine the missing number in a number bond when given the whole and one of the parts. This is a pre-cursor to subtraction! November 6-9

 Hello families,  We had such a blast at the zoo on Monday! We learned all about penguins and enjoyed exploring the zoo in our groups. Thank you to the amazing volunteers that were able to join us - I hope you had fun too!  This was three generations of lemurs - a baby, mom and grandma! How sweet!  What a day! Math In math we continued to develop our understanding of place value. Students chose "just right" work - ask your child how they know when classroom work is a good level for them! We practiced writing, drawing and building numbers. Students could choose between teen numbers, numbers to 100, and numbers to 1000. Here's an ABCya game to practice place value! Students briefly learned how to use the Room Recess base ten program to practice identifying and building numbers!  Literacy We reviewed our last letter, C, with our character Crazy Camel.
