Tuesday

Hello everyone!

We had an extremely busy day today! I was excited to get back into our Daily 5 routine but unfortunately we just didn't have a lot of time today! I try to do Daily 5 literacy on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday since we have library on Monday mornings and music on Thursday mornings. We will do better next week! We spent 10 minutes reading this morning instead and had an early snack. During work period we practiced our weekly words, decorated paper bags for tomorrow's Valentine's exchange, and continued with our 100s day writing from yesterday. We then had guest reader and a very quick second snack. Students then had the choice of doing a Star Wars yoga activity in room 13 for PE or doing Go Noodle in room 12. We then had our presentation from the Canadiana Musical Theatre Company.


After lunch, since we had a later lunch from 12:00-12:50, we had a quick mindful minutes and then students went to music. At the end of the day we talked about our upcoming Byblos Bakery visit and the Canada Food Guide. Remember to send some pita ingredients on Wednesday, February 20th!

Thank you for returning the white report card envelopes. I am still missing a few!

Tomorrow morning we are going to be doing a couple of 100s day experiments with our buddy class and in the afternoon we will be celebrating Valentine's Day! We were unable to fill our pom-pom jar to earn a Valentine's celebration, but I'm not completely heartless and still want to do something to celebrate! We will spend a part of our afternoon handing out Valentines and will do some Valentine's activities.

Hello families,  Here's an update from this week!  Math We started the week looking at the calendar for October! Students wrote/drew about the special days in October and brought their calendars home to help keep them organized! We also learned about symmetry. The kids LOVED this song and were able to choose how explore symmetry with blocks, drawing, or dry erase. We learned a math game called "Knockout" which helps students with subitizing and addition fact automaticity. On Friday we learned about tally marks and did a "roll and tally" activity.  Here's a link to the Knockout game - it's really simple and can be played at home (sorry the site has quite a few ads!)  In literacy, we reviewed the letters N, O, D, U and G using UFLI and Animated Literacy. Hello families,  We had a very busy week getting ready for our winter concert and our Calgary Humane Society fundraiser! Students love baking and packaging treats, making posters, and some students were even challenged to learn how to curl the ribbon! On Friday we used our skip counting skills to count up all the money we've raised so far. We've raised $666.85 and are hoping to break our record of $700 from last year! All of this work is connected to our health and wellness curriculum (volunteerism), social studies, science, art, math and literacy! Wow! Math In math we've been continuing to work with number bonds. This week students learned how to determine the missing number in a number bond when given the whole and one of the parts. This is a pre-cursor to subtraction! November 6-9

 Hello families,  We had such a blast at the zoo on Monday! We learned all about penguins and enjoyed exploring the zoo in our groups. Thank you to the amazing volunteers that were able to join us - I hope you had fun too!  This was three generations of lemurs - a baby, mom and grandma! How sweet!  What a day! Math In math we continued to develop our understanding of place value. Students chose "just right" work - ask your child how they know when classroom work is a good level for them! We practiced writing, drawing and building numbers. Students could choose between teen numbers, numbers to 100, and numbers to 1000. Here's an ABCya game to practice place value! Students briefly learned how to use the Room Recess base ten program to practice identifying and building numbers!  Literacy We reviewed our last letter, C, with our character Crazy Camel.
