Hello everyone,

This morning we had Explore and Play and music. During work period, we were working on our weekly words, patterns and dream books. We also had guest reader and PE.

In the afternoon we had our literacy groups where we continued working on Voice in our writing. We also enjoyed a little bit of free choice time since we haven't had time the last two weeks! At the very end of the day we enjoyed some birthday treats for two birthdays in our classroom.

In case you missed it yesterday, please take some time to read the following message about online safety.

Due to recent events regarding “The Momo Challenge”, some students came to school today talking about the images they’ve seen and stories they’ve heard due to various news broadcasts. This prompted a whole class sit down regarding internet safety. I reinforced what to do if they ever saw something inappropriate or uncomfortable on the internet: walk away and get an adult.

“The Momo Challenge” may be the most recent viral phenomenon, but it is not the first and unfortunately will not be the last. I encourage you to have a similar conversation at home this evening regarding internet safety as a whole, and revisit your parent controls on any devices that are able to access the internet.

Inline Skating
Alien In-line forms are due back on Monday and I'm a still missing a few! If the form is not signed and returned, your child will not be able to participate. If you are interested in volunteering please let me know!

Hello families,  Here's an update from this week!  Math We started the week looking at the calendar for October! Students wrote/drew about the special days in October and brought their calendars home to help keep them organized! We also learned about symmetry. The kids LOVED this song and were able to choose how explore symmetry with blocks, drawing, or dry erase. We learned a math game called "Knockout" which helps students with subitizing and addition fact automaticity. On Friday we learned about tally marks and did a "roll and tally" activity.  Here's a link to the Knockout game - it's really simple and can be played at home (sorry the site has quite a few ads!)  In literacy, we reviewed the letters N, O, D, U and G using UFLI and Animated Literacy. Hello families,  We had a very busy week getting ready for our winter concert and our Calgary Humane Society fundraiser! Students love baking and packaging treats, making posters, and some students were even challenged to learn how to curl the ribbon! On Friday we used our skip counting skills to count up all the money we've raised so far. We've raised $666.85 and are hoping to break our record of $700 from last year! All of this work is connected to our health and wellness curriculum (volunteerism), social studies, science, art, math and literacy! Wow! Math In math we've been continuing to work with number bonds. This week students learned how to determine the missing number in a number bond when given the whole and one of the parts. This is a pre-cursor to subtraction!  Hello families,  We had such a blast at the zoo on Monday! We learned all about penguins and enjoyed exploring the zoo in our groups. Thank you to the amazing volunteers that were able to join us - I hope you had fun too!  This was three generations of lemurs - a baby, mom and grandma! How sweet!  What a day! Math In math we continued to develop our understanding of place value. Students chose "just right" work - ask your child how they know when classroom work is a good level for them! We practiced writing, drawing and building numbers. Students could choose between teen numbers, numbers to 100, and numbers to 1000. Here's an ABCya game to practice place value! Students briefly learned how to use the Room Recess base ten program to practice identifying and building numbers!  Literacy We reviewed our last letter, C, with our character Crazy Camel.
