Hello families,

What a chilly day! I'm looking forward to a slightly warmer day tomorrow!

This morning we had library and some work period time. During work period we worked on our weekly words, our dreams for ourselves and number lines. Students in grade 1 were plotting numbers on a number line from 1-20 and grade 2s were plotting numbers 1-100. This week, students chose between 3 spelling lists with Valentine's Day themed words.


Pink List: red, pink, like, love, bug, hug, mine, card
Purple List: love, heart, rose, candy, adore, pink, purple, Cupid
Red List: February, Valentine, chocolate, flowers, affection, admirer, bouquet, embrace

In gymnastics, we attempted to set up Mission Impossible since it wasn't set up this morning. Hopefully tomorrow it will be fully ready to go! Our lunchroom supervisor was away today but she will be back tomorrow! We spent lunch indoors because of the temperature. In the afternoon, we had our literacy groups with Ms. Kassam and some more work time. We were missing a few students today so I didn't want to start too many new things! The students had some resposible work choice time once they were done all of their "must-do" jobs.

By the end of the day, the lack of fresh air was getting to everyone! We did our classroom jobs, read a chapter of Smallfoot and watched some videos about the Chinese New Year.

Admission is $10 per family.

Tickets for the Concession (2 tickets) , Cake Walk (2 tickets) , pie throwing contest (2 tickets) raffle draw ( 2 tickets) are: 
  • 5 for $5.00
  • 11 for $10.00
  • 24 for $20.00

Single tickets can also be purchased at the dance (1 ticket for $1.00)
About the event activities: The cake walk is like musical chairs. If you are sitting on the chair that is selected when the music stops - you win a cake! 
We need you to bring cakes/cupcakes for the cakewalk - they can be homemade or store bought cakes, cupcakes, cookies, baked goods etc.  Nut-free / peanut-free preferred but if it has nuts, please label accordingly

Hello families,  Here's an update from this week!  Math We started the week looking at the calendar for October! Students wrote/drew about the special days in October and brought their calendars home to help keep them organized! We also learned about symmetry. The kids LOVED this song and were able to choose how explore symmetry with blocks, drawing, or dry erase. We learned a math game called "Knockout" which helps students with subitizing and addition fact automaticity. On Friday we learned about tally marks and did a "roll and tally" activity.  Here's a link to the Knockout game - it's really simple and can be played at home (sorry the site has quite a few ads!)  In literacy, we reviewed the letters N, O, D, U and G using UFLI and Animated Literacy. Hello families,  We had a very busy week getting ready for our winter concert and our Calgary Humane Society fundraiser! Students love baking and packaging treats, making posters, and some students were even challenged to learn how to curl the ribbon! On Friday we used our skip counting skills to count up all the money we've raised so far. We've raised $666.85 and are hoping to break our record of $700 from last year! All of this work is connected to our health and wellness curriculum (volunteerism), social studies, science, art, math and literacy! Wow! Math In math we've been continuing to work with number bonds. This week students learned how to determine the missing number in a number bond when given the whole and one of the parts. This is a pre-cursor to subtraction! November 6-9

 Hello families,  We had such a blast at the zoo on Monday! We learned all about penguins and enjoyed exploring the zoo in our groups. Thank you to the amazing volunteers that were able to join us - I hope you had fun too!  This was three generations of lemurs - a baby, mom and grandma! How sweet!  What a day! Math In math we continued to develop our understanding of place value. Students chose "just right" work - ask your child how they know when classroom work is a good level for them! We practiced writing, drawing and building numbers. Students could choose between teen numbers, numbers to 100, and numbers to 1000. Here's an ABCya game to practice place value! Students briefly learned how to use the Room Recess base ten program to practice identifying and building numbers!  Literacy We reviewed our last letter, C, with our character Crazy Camel.
