Tuesday

Hi everyone!

This morning we had Explore and Play and Daily 5 literacy. During work period, we read a story called "The Dream Collector" and started talking about our dreams for Calgary as the next step in our Salvador Dali inquiry. We also practiced our weekly words with a big emphasis on sky, grass and dirt letters and finished up our healthy plates. We then had guest reader and did some skipping during PE.

In the afternoon we continued talking about voice in our writing. I read a few pages from a few different stories without showing what the stories were to see if students could hear the personality of different authors coming though. We discussed different ways that we ca have voice in our writing such as using humour, exclamation points, etc. Students then headed off to music.

Alien In-Line Skating
Thank you to everyone who was so quick to sign and return the Alien-Inline forms! In order to allow each class to have equal time participating in inline skating, we will be joined by half of Miss Ireland's class. If you are available to volunteer during this time, we would really appreciate it as we will have a group of almost 30 students and only one teacher (please help me!!) There will be a lot of students who need support putting on and taking off equipment and I am anticipating quite a few students that may feel nervous about inline skating. Here are the dates and times - please let me know if you are available to volunteer! You do not need to put skates on!
  • Wednesday, March 6th 10:30-11:30am
  • Friday, March 8th 10:30-11:30am
  • Wednesday, March 14th 10:30-11:30

Please keep in mind that Thursday, March 21st (pm) and Friday, March 22nd (am) will be student-led conferences. I will let you know when you are able to sign up for a time where your child can share their learning.

At the very end of the day each student was given a pink heart and was asked to cut it out and keep in as nice as they could (no ripping, bending or crinkling). We then read the story "One" which is about bullying and standing up for people who are being bullied. Every time someone was feeling hurt in the story, the students had to wrinkle their hearts a little bit. By the end of the story, the hearts were very wrinkled and we compared them to my heart, which was not wrinkled. We discussed that no matter what we do, the heart will never look the same. The heart says, "Before you speak, think and be smart. It is hard to fix a wrinkled heart." We discussed how sometimes when we say something to someone it can stick with them forever and saying sorry won't always make things better. Students could either bring their hearts home or recycle them if they didn't want them.

TOMORROW IS PINK SHIRT DAY!
Remember to wear your pink shirt if you have one! 💕
